What We Look For In a High School Physics Tutor
- Advanced Subject Mastery: Deep knowledge of mechanics including kinematics and dynamics, energy, waves and sound, light and optics, electricity and magnetism, and introductory modern physics. Ability to explain Newton laws, conservation of energy and momentum, wave properties, and basic circuit analysis while preparing students for Regents Physics, AP Physics, and college physics prerequisites.
- Conceptual Teaching & Problem-Solving: Skilled at teaching problem-solving strategies, free-body diagram construction, and mathematical reasoning in physics contexts. Guides students through kinematics calculations, force analysis, energy conservation problems, wave calculations, and basic circuit analysis. Emphasizes building physical intuition alongside mathematical skills and connects physics concepts to everyday experiences, sports, engineering, and technology applications.
- Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Familiar with high school physics curricula including Regents and state standards, and common challenges such as vector addition, applying Newton second law, and understanding abstract electromagnetic concepts. Adapts instruction using demonstrations, PhET simulations, and scaffolded problem sets to support students from conceptual physics through honors and pre-AP levels building physics foundations.
- Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
- Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
- Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
