Job Description

Posted on: August 21, 2026

Senior Service & UX Designer contract opportunity leading human-centred design, user research, enterprise UX/UI, accessibility and service-design delivery across a multi-year public-sector digital modernization portfolio.

  • Primarily remote or hybrid work from within Canada
  • Initial onboarding and key meetings may require attendance in Edmonton
  • Initial one-year contract with two possible one-year extensions

What & Why:

Our client, a provincial public-sector organization, is seeking an experienced Senior Service & UX Designer to improve internal and external-facing digital services. The consultant will lead discovery, research, service design and product-design activities, helping ensure that complex enterprise solutions are intuitive, accessible and aligned with user needs, organizational objectives and policy requirements.

Who:

The consultant will work within a cross-functional digital delivery team alongside Product Managers, Business Analysts, Developers, Architects, Quality Assurance professionals and government stakeholders. The portfolio includes enterprise CRM, portal and web-based services supporting complex business and service workflows.

You:

You are a hands-on senior designer who can move confidently from research and problem definition through service blueprinting, interaction design, prototyping, design-system development, implementation support and usability measurement. You can facilitate senior stakeholder discussions while remaining closely involved in detailed design work. You understand how to balance user needs, accessibility, policy requirements, business priorities and technical constraints within an Agile environment.

Critical Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive UX, UI and Service Design experience in complex enterprise environments.
  • Minimum five years supporting digital transformation in government, public sector, Crown corporations or comparable regulated organizations.
  • Related post-secondary diploma or degree.
  • Human-Centred Design and Design Thinking experience spanning discovery, ideation, prototyping and validation.
  • Hands-on user interviews, stakeholder research, usability testing and research synthesis.
  • Journey mapping, service blueprinting and current/future-state service design.
  • Information architecture, user flows, wireframes and interactive prototyping.
  • Responsive web and enterprise digital-platform design.
  • Enterprise design systems, component libraries, design tokens and interaction standards.
  • WCAG 2.2 AA or equivalent accessibility experience.
  • Agile product-delivery and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Developer handoff, production-ready specifications and design QA.
  • Workshop, design review and stakeholder-facilitation experience.
  • Proficiency with Figma and modern collaboration and Agile-management tools.
  • Ability to work during Alberta business hours from within Canada.
  • Ability to attend onboarding and key stakeholder meetings in Edmonton.
  • Ability to provide three recent professional references.

Nice to Have:

  • Canadian provincial-government experience.
  • Microsoft Dynamics 365, CRM or case-management platform experience.
  • Citizen-facing or partner-facing portal experience.
  • Experience with policy-driven public services.
  • Design-system governance across multiple products or teams.
  • Accessibility testing using assistive technologies.
  • Product analytics and measurable usability outcomes.
  • Executive-level facilitation and presentation experience.
  • A portfolio or redacted enterprise case studies.

Compensation:

Competitive hourly contract rate based on experience, engagement structure and overall alignment. The consultant must provide the required equipment and software. The rate must also account for any required travel or attendance in Edmonton.

Next Steps:

Please apply with an updated résumé showing month/year dates and clearly describing your service-design, user-research, enterprise UX/UI, design-system, accessibility and Agile-delivery experience. Your resume should identify specific projects, your personal responsibilities, methods and deliverables, implementation involvement and measurable outcomes. Please also confirm your availability, location, rate expectations, Edmonton attendance capability and three recent references.
