The Opportunity
In the Materials and Surfacing Unit of the Design and Construction Division, we serve many internal and external clients with their sand and gravel needs. We seek an individual who is excited about exploring the diverse landscapes in the central portion of the province of Saskatchewan.
As the Assistant Aggregate Manager, you will supervise field staff, perform field surveys, pit inspections, and process and maintain aggregate resource data. You will analyze data including GIS databases, aggregate resource plans, global positioning system (GPS) files, permits, and sample submissions sheets, to assess the quality and quantity of materials.
The Ideal CandidateTo succeed in the role of Assistant Aggregate Manager, you will require:
- Skills in, or a willingness to learn terrain analysis, materials identification, and air photo interpretation.
- Knowledge of various computer systems and programs such as Microsoft suite and AutoCAD (Level 1).
- Leadership skills with the ability to be a collaborator in an active work environment.
- Diplomatic, approachable, and collaborative qualities to build lasting working relationships.
- The physical ability to conduct visual inspections, walk on uneven terrain, and occasionally lift and carry heavy sample bags weighing 8 kg to 20 kg.
- Skills in project planning, management, and administration.
- An enthusiastic attitude about performing surveys and field work in remote locations.
- A strong commitment to workplace safety, including a safety-conscious attitude and a willingness to learn.
Typically, the knowledge required for this position would be obtained through Geographic Information Systems training and/or an Applied Sciences and Technology diploma with two (2) years of progressively responsible related work experience, or equivalent qualification.
Approximately 50% of the job involves travel to various gravel sources in the central part of the province. A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel independently to remote parts of the province is necessary for this role.
