In addition to directly handling critical investigations, as a Senior Investigator you will oversee complex investigations involving teams of investigators and partner representatives. Reporting to the Assistant Director, Special Investigations Unit (SIU) North, you will function within the parameters of applicable Government and Ministry legislations, regulations, policies, directives and procedures. The Main Responsibilities Of This Position Are

  • To investigate diverse and complex complaints associated with actual or suspected breaches of legislations, regulations and policies with the potential to impact the security, integrity and/or reputation of the ministry, government or the Registry Agent Network (RAN) in accordance with legislation, the Criminal Code of Canada and ministry policies and procedures.
  • To ensure policies, programs and initiatives associated with the investigation program are implemented, evaluated and enhanced to ensure compliance with legislation, regulation and relevant business plan goals.
  • To enhance and develop relationships with external enforcement agencies and stakeholders through comprehensive consultation and providing information services.
  • To support the Director of SIU in achieving the mandate goals of the Ministry.

  • University graduation in a related field (for example law, police security) or any other related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of related experience with law enforcement, regulatory or protection background.

The Following Equivalencies May Be Considered

  • Two year diploma in a related field with a minimum six years of related experience
  • One year of related certification program with a minimum of seven years of related experience
  • No formal education with 8 years of related experience

Following Are Required For This Role

  • A valid operator’s license and ability to travel throughout the province.
  • Eligible for appointment at Peace Officer designation

Assets

  • Experience working with the Criminal Code of Canada policies and procedures pertaining to investigation of violations of the Criminal Code of Canada, the Statues of Province of Alberta, and other related policies.
  • Experience with investigative techniques, including interviewing and interrogation skills, statement analysis and evidence gathering and handling techniques.
  • Experience in giving evidence in judicial procedures.
  • Experience with various forms of enforcement actions- including formal criminal & regulatory charges, search warrants, production orders, direction or reprimand, undertakings, prosecutions and civil contempt.
  • Experience writing reports, briefings, and/or delivering training presentations.

  • Hours of work: 7.25 hours per day / 36.25 hours per week (Monday – Friday).
