The City of Edmonton is looking for a creative and strategic Communications Advisor to join our Integrated Infrastructure Services team. In this role, you will be at the heart of city-building, helping to share the story of how our neighborhoods, buildings, and transportation networks come to life. You will work in a fast-paced environment where your ability to translate complex infrastructure projects into meaningful information for the public is essential. As a key member of our communications team, you will help maintain the City’s reputation as a dedicated steward of public resources. - Lead and collaborate on the development of integrated communications strategies for high-profile capital infrastructure projects
- Develop and implement content strategies and messaging to support public information sharing and engagement activities
- Proactively and reactively manage media relations, including preparing spokespeople for interviews and planning media availabilities
- Write, edit, and manage a wide range of products such as news releases, social media posts, web content, and signage
- Identify emerging issues and implement strategies to effectively position the City with internal audiences and community partners
- Foster positive relationships with colleagues across the City to ensure consistent messaging throughout project lifecycles
- Attend project meetings and provide strategic communications counsel to clients and consultants
Qualifications:
- University graduation in communications, public relations, or a related field, plus a minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in public relations or affairs.
- OR a Diploma in communications, public relations, or a related field, plus a minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in public relations or affairs.
Assets:
- Accreditation with the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC).
- Accreditation with the Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS)
Skills required for success:
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with a deep understanding of communications principles.
- Superior skills in issues identification, management, and media relations.
- Demonstrated ability to build strong working relationships with senior leaders, project managers, and collaborators.
- Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Strong project management and event planning skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines.

Work Environment:
- Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52.
- The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement, and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
- The work is primarily performed in an indoor office setting with frequent sitting.
- Occasional travel to active construction sites is required for media tours, milestone events, and capturing content, which may involve exposure to outdoor weather and construction hazards.
- The role involves high-pressure situations, including meeting sudden deadlines and managing public and media scrutiny.
