Your Opportunity: The Peter Lougheed Centre (PLC) is seeking a full-time Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join the Labour & Delivery (L&D) Triage team. This autonomous role supports quality patient care through advanced practice, leadership, consultation, education, and research. Reporting to the Executive Director of Women’s Health, the NP collaborates with obstetrical providers and low-risk obstetrics/family medicine designates to deliver daily maternity care, planning, and clinical interventions. The NP may also support other Women’s Health programs as required. With graduate-level education, the NP practices within legislated scope, CARNA standards, AHS policies, and their individual competencies. The NP may possess specialized skills and is responsible for ongoing assessment and development of professional competence (CARNA, 2017). The role includes Advanced Practice Nursing (APN) and non-clinical APN competencies: leadership, health systems optimization, education, and research. About 80% of the role is focused on clinical care, including assessment, diagnosis, and management of maternity triage and antepartum patients. The remaining 20% supports non-clinical APN activities. The NP works collaboratively with the interprofessional maternity team to review patient histories, perform assessments, fetal surveillance, triage, and manage antepartum care. The NP supports medical learners—students, residents, and fellows—rotating through OB services. In a leadership capacity, the NP coordinates communication between consulting services and facilitates timely involvement of allied health, including radiology, nutrition, emergency, and ACARP. The NP leads family communication, care planning, patient education, and outpatient referrals, including postpartum care. Description: As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. You will be responsible for integrating clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients. Additionally, you will utilize advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar, including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications: At least 3 years recent (within the last 7 years) experience in labour and delivery nursing in a level 2 or 3 facility, including antepartum, intrapartum and triage. Current Fetal Health Surveillance Certification. Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (lessons 1-9) certification. A keen, self-learner willing to work as a member of the post partum team. Excellent communication skills both written and verbal. Strong team player with the proven ability to manage difficult situations. Strong computer skills. Participate in and maintain additional education and/or certifications specific to area of practice. Preferred Qualifications: Previous NP experience in a Women’s Health setting. 3-5 years of experience in a Women’s Health setting as an RN. Experience working in other areas of perinatal health such as postpartum, MFM, ACCP. IBCLC certification. POCT ultrasound certification. Connect Care (Epic) and MS Office Suite knowledge. Experience in quality improvement and/or quality improvement certification an asset.
