This autonomous role supports quality patient care through advanced practice, leadership, consultation, education, and research. Reporting to the Executive Director of Women’s Health, the NP collaborates with obstetrical providers and low-risk obstetrics/family medicine designates to deliver daily maternity care, planning, and clinical interventions. The NP may also support other Women’s Health programs as required. With graduate-level education, the NP practices within legislated scope, CARNA standards, AHS policies, and their individual competencies. The NP may possess specialized skills and is responsible for ongoing assessment and development of professional competence (CARNA, 2017). The NP supports medical learners—students, residents, and fellows—rotating through OB services. In a leadership capacity, the NP coordinates communication between consulting services and facilitates timely involvement of allied health, including radiology, nutrition, emergency, and ACARP. The NP leads family communication, care planning, patient education, and outpatient referrals, including postpartum care.
