Overview A firm located in Selkirk, MB is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Family Legal Assistant to join its legal team. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills and a solid understanding of legal procedures. This role is essential in supporting attorneys with various tasks, ensuring that all legal documentation is accurate and timely. The Legal Assistant will play a vital role in maintaining the efficiency of operations and enhancing client satisfaction in family law. Duties

  • Assist attorneys in preparing legal documents, including pleadings, contracts, and briefs.
  • Manage project timelines and ensure deadlines are met through effective project management.
  • Perform data entry and maintain organized filing systems for easy retrieval of case files.
  • Proofread legal documents for accuracy, clarity, and compliance with legal standards.
  • Conduct client interviews to gather necessary information for cases.
  • Handle clerical tasks such as scheduling appointments, managing correspondence, and answering phone calls with professionalism.
  • Perform data entry in Childview.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all aspects of work.

Experience

  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in family law is preferred.
  • Previous administrative experience in a legal setting is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficient writing skills for drafting correspondence and legal documents.
  • Experience with data entry and maintaining accurate records.
  • Familiarity with legal drafting processes is a plus.
  • Excellent phone etiquette and interpersonal skills for effective communication with clients and colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
