Student Central Officer, Teaching, Learning And Student ExperienceSummary: The Student Central Officer provides individualized front-line support to students while performing a range of administrative responsibilities that contribute to positive academic and personal experiences. This role involves , determining appropriate actions, referring students to specialized services, and following up. The officer supports processes related to student loans, registration, and financial appeals while maintaining student records, including those with sensitive information. This position works closely with internal and external stakeholders to deliver integrated, student-centered services and improve operational processes. Additionally, the officer contributes to initiatives that enhance service delivery, data analysis, and communication across the unit.

  • Interprets policies, regulations, and procedures related to student finance, registration, and records
  • Resolves registration issues and supports student processes in collaboration with campus units
  • Processes student loan documentation, confirmations of enrolment, and remittance calculations
  • Assesses student financial appeals by reviewing documentation and applying policy guidelines
  • Provides high-level explanations of financial aid programs, policies, and procedures
  • Analyzes multi-faceted financial, registration, and social situations and determines appropriate courses of action
  • Develops recommendations for process improvements based on data analysis and service feedback
  • Maintains and updates student records, including legal name and residency changes
  • Supports administrative functions, such as fee assessments, adjustments, and manual transactions
  • Delivers presentations and outreach sessions to students, families, and university stakeholders
  • Liaises with internal and external service providers to coordinate student services
  • Organizes and contributes to department initiatives and ongoing projects
  • Responds to student inquiries through various channels
  • Guides students through registration, financial aid, and administrative processes
  • Assists with document access, verification requests, and alumni program inquiries
  • Communicates and acts in a respectful and professional manner, collaborates effectively, abides by policy, and contributes to a positive and productive work and learning environment
  • Engages in continuous learning by participating in activities, training, and events related to Indigenous engagement, reconciliation, equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Demonstrates respect and dignity for all members of the community, actively contributes to an environment of acceptance and inclusion of others, and responds to different perspectives from a place of curiosity, respect, and non-judgement
  • Undertakes related duties, as assigned, consistent with the nature of the position

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Minimum of one year of related experience, preferably in a student-centered university environment
  • Knowledge of academic and administrative structures within a university setting
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism
  • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail
  • Effective problem-solving and analytical thinking abilities
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a team
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications; familiarity with student information systems, such as Banner, and service platforms, such as Team Dynamix
