Apply Online by July 21, 2026.Position Purpose: The Learning & Engagement Coordinator is responsible for designing and coordinating engaging and impactful learning experiences for a variety of audiences to connect to nature and inspire action to protect our natural world. This position will assist and provide support in implementing the Strategic Plan. Core Role Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements, and evaluates educational programs (such as: Zoo camp, Bush camp, School programs, overnight experiences, etc.) and experiences for a variety of audiences (schools, families, children, adults, youth groups, teachers, etc.) to drive new and maximize existing sources of revenue and attendance.
  • Creates and maintains interpretive and other learning resources and materials to support staff, Volunteer, and guest experiences. Assists in delivering training for staff/Volunteers as related.
  • Provides leadership, mentorship, motivation, training, and support to a team of program staff and volunteers. May also assist in the delivery of programs and experiences.
  • Ensures that programs and experiences and are designed and delivered using current and emerging educational approaches, and are novel and memorable.
  • Communicates with Marketing/Strategic Communications and provides content to ensure the successful and timely marketing and promotion of programs and experiences, including applicable website content.
  • Responds to inquiries and accepts and processes registrations and bookings, as necessary.
  • Schedules program staff and arranges spaces/locations, ensuring they are clean, well-maintained, and set up to meet program requirements.
  • Coordinates behind-the-scenes tours and secures other qualified persons to present program/experience content.
  • Collaborates with others and provides input to enhance guest learning and engagement in new or existing experiences site wide.
  • Ensures registration, sales, and database systems are maintained, accurate, and provide a positive guest experience.
  • Maintains accurate statistics of expenditures, revenues, and attendance, and produces written reports and proposals.
  • Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external clients.
  • Follow all policies and branch instructions.
  • Attends appropriate training as required.

Technical Knowledge And Skills

  • Must have University degree in Biology or related field and/or a Bachelor of Education or the equivalent zoo education or the equivalent amount of training and related experience.
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years proven experience in the same or similar position. (in developing, delivering, and evaluating/assessing educational experiences, using current and emerging educational approaches).
  • Familiar with the current Ontario elementary and secondary school curriculum relevant to the Zoo experience.
  • Possess the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and demonstrates strong presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to organize projects from inception to final presentation, with attention to detail.
  • Experience in producing interpretive/learning resources and materials.
  • Must be a creative self-starter, capable of working with minimum supervision, with proven experience motivating and working as part of a diverse team.
  • Must ensure all applicable licenses and certificates remain valid and in good standing. Copies of licenses and certificates to be provided at time of hire and upon renewal. (depending upon role, e.g. for Trades positions)
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, along with strong communications skills.
  • Working knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act and WHMIS legislation.
  • Must be knowledgeable in the use of computerized programs and systems. (Knowledge of and ability to use basic office equipment and proficient with computer programs including MS Word, Excel, E-mail and databases.)
  • Must be able to work weekends, shifts and holidays as scheduled.
  • Must be able to deal with staff and public in a courteous and efficient manner.
  • Capable of meeting the physical requirements of the position.
