Join us at The Village Vet+ Annex

Owned and operated by Dr. Michael Astin, we are looking for a Veterinary Assistant / Animal Care Attendant (VA/ACA) to join our opening team at The Village Vet+ Annex. The Village Vet+ Annex is a brand-new, state-of-the-art hospital opening Fall 2026 at 585 Bloor Street West in Toronto.

You will work closely with veterinarians and RVTs to support safe, efficient patient care and a welcoming client experience. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys learning, notices what needs to be done, and treats every patient with patience and respect.

What you’ll do

• Provide compassionate care and comfort to hospitalized and day patients, including feeding, walking, cleaning, and care as directed

• Safely handle and restrain dogs and cats, including patients who may be stressed, ill, painful, or fearful

• Prepare exam rooms and assist veterinarians and RVTs with examinations and procedures

• Support diagnostics and patient flow, including sample preparation and radiographs as trained

• Assist with surgical-area preparation, instrument cleaning, and sterilization

• Keep treatment, kennel, client, and public areas clean, organized, and ready for use

• Restock supplies and help maintain accurate inventory

• Communicate clearly and compassionately with pet guardians and support a smooth client experience

• Work collaboratively across the hospital and help the team anticipate patient and workflow needs

What you bring

• Genuine enjoyment of working with animals and a calm, compassionate approach

• Previous experience in veterinary medicine, animal care, shelter work, boarding/daycare, or customer service is an asset; training and motivated entry-level candidates are welcome

• Strong communication, organization, attention to detail, and follow-through

• A team-oriented, dependable, self-directed approach with willingness to learn

• Comfort working on your feet and performing physical tasks such as bending, lifting, and assisting with animal restraint; use proper technique and ask for help

• A fear-free approach whenever possible, while following the hospital’s handling and safety protocols

• Availability for the schedule required by a growing veterinary hospital, including some evenings or Saturdays as applicable

What we offer

• Join a doctor-owned, brand-new, state-of-the-art hospital at the start of its story

• Supportive collaboration, mentorship, and opportunities to build practical skills

• A respectful workplace that values patient care, client trust, and team development

• Compensation of CA$18–25 per hour, based on experience and demonstrated skills

• Full-time and part-time opportunities may be available
