Our client, a well-respected, locally owned and operated commercial real estate and property management firm, is seeking a Financial Controller to join their team on a full-time, permanent basis. This role reports directly to the General Manager and is responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting requirements of the organization. The Controller will supervise one individual and will be expected to provide ongoing support and guidance to ensure deadlines are met. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented and confident in their accounting expertise. Your strong communication and interpersonal skills will allow you to partner effectively with various stakeholders across the organization and become a valuable member of their management team. Main duties include:
- Overseeing full-cycle accounting, including reconciliations, accruals, G/L maintenance, and ensuring the accuracy of financial reporting
- Managing government remittances, audit support, and liaising with financial institutions and external auditors
- Leading month-end and year-end close activities, including working papers, CAM reconciliations, commissions, management fees, and tax-related reviews
- Supervising day-to-day accounting operations, including A/P, A/R, payroll support, and system and vendor/tenant setup
- Managing financial reporting and analysis, including budget variance tracking, cash flow oversight, and internal reporting for senior leadership
- Providing team leadership and operational support, including oversight of direct reports, HR coordination, system training, and process improvement initiatives

Qualifications
The main qualifications for this role include:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
- CPA designation complete or in progress is considered an asset
- Minimum 6+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Previous property management experience is considered an asset
- Knowledge of Yardi is considered an asset
- Proficient in Excel
