Scotia Recycling Limited (SRL), a member of the Scotia Investments Limited (SIL) family of companies, is an operator of Atlantic Canada’s leading ­­­recycling facilities located in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. With an approximate workforce of 150+ dedicated employees, we specialize in the collection, processing, sales, and brokerage of recyclable materials, and are a proven industry leader that have been in operation since 1976. We are currently seeking a Production Worker to join our growing team.


Position Summary:

The Warehouse Lead is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the warehouse while actively participating in operational activities. This is a working leadership role that combines warehouse coordination, shipping and receiving responsibilities, material handling, baler operation, inventory control, and team leadership. The Warehouse Lead provides guidance and support to warehouse staff, ensures safe and efficient operations, and maintains compliance with company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.


Key Responsibilities


Leadership & Team Coordination

  • Provide day-to-day supervision, guidance, and support to warehouse employees.
  • Lead by example by actively participating in warehouse operations.
  • Coordinate daily work assignments and workflow to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Assist with employee training, coaching, and onboarding.
  • Communicate company policies, procedures, and safety expectations to employees through Toolbox talks.
  • Address operational concerns and escalate issues to management as required.
  • Conduct daily shift meetings and safety discussions when required.
  • Assist management by monitoring productivity, attendance, and work quality.
  • Act as the operational lead when management is unavailable.


Warehouse Operations

  • Work with Facility Supervisor to oversee the movement, storage, and handling of materials within the warehouse.
  • Ensure materials are properly organized and stored.
  • Work with the Facility Supervisor to coordinate loading and unloading activities.
  • Maintain warehouse cleanliness and organization.
  • Monitor inventory levels and report discrepancies.
  • Ensure proper handling and storage of recyclable materials, commodities, and finished products.


Shipping & Receiving

  • Receive incoming shipments and verify accuracy against packing slips and purchase orders.
  • Prepare outbound shipments accurately and efficiently.
  • Complete shipping and receiving documentation.
  • Coordinate carrier pickups and deliveries.
  • Investigate and report damaged or missing products.
  • Maintain accurate inventory and shipment records.
  • Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment as required.


Baler Operations

  • Operate and monitor baling equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Inspect materials prior to processing.
  • Tie, label, and prepare bales for shipment.
  • Complete routine equipment inspections and report maintenance requirements.
  • Ensure production targets and quality standards are met.
  • Keep baler area clean and free from hazards.
  • Follow lockout/tagout and equipment safety procedures.


Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure employees follow safe work practices.
  • Conduct workplace inspections and identify potential hazards.
  • Complete required safety documentation and reports.
  • Participate in accident and incident investigations as required.
  • Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety requirements.
  • Maintain WHMIS knowledge and safe handling procedures.
  • Ensure all employees wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).


Administrative Responsibilities

  • Complete operational paperwork and electronic documentation.
  • Assist with inventory counts and audits.
  • Record production, shipment, and receiving information.
  • Complete daily inspections in Megamation and SiteDocs as required.
  • Prepare reports and provide operational updates to management.


Qualifications

  • 3-5 years in a similar role.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous warehouse, logistics, manufacturing, or recycling experience preferred.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience considered an asset.
  • Experience operating forklifts and material handling equipment.
  • Experience operating balers or industrial processing equipment preferred.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with employees, management, suppliers, and customers.


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in varying weather and warehouse conditions.
  • Frequent bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, and reaching.
  • Ability to safely operate forklifts and warehouse equipment.


This position combines leadership responsibilities with active participation in warehouse operations to ensure the safe, efficient, and effective handling of materials and shipments while supporting overall operational success.


Working Conditions: This is a working leadership position requiring approximately 80-90% operational duties and 10-20% leadership and administrative responsibilities.
