Digital Architect – Senior (GOAPRDJP00000874) (Dual‑Branding: Data / Digital Architect – Senior, Government of Alberta) Client: Government of Alberta Work Location: Remote (Edmonton, AB – 100% remote; no travel expense coverage for potential onsite meetings) Estimated Start Date: April 3, 2026 Estimated End Date: March 31, 2029 #Business Days: 755 Hours: 7.25 hours per day (full‑time remote) Extension: Up to 6 months possible (initial 8‑month term with potential 24‑month extension under same terms) Deadline: Saturday, April 4, 2026, 4:00 PM EST About The Role Senior Digital / Data Architect with strong experience leading solution and data architecture for citizen‑centric digital services in an Agile environment. This remote role supports the Government of Alberta by defining and evolving the architecture of digital platforms and data ecosystems, ensuring alignment with common components, re‑usable capabilities, and user‑centered design. The candidate will lead solution design, integration strategy, and data‑architecture patterns across one to two concurrent projects, while mentoring product teams, reviewing code, and contributing to enterprise‑grade architectural standards and best practices. Must Haves Architecture & Leadership

  • Experience leading solution and digital‑service architecture for complex, enterprise‑scale systems.
  • Experience developing architectural plans that support iterative, Agile delivery and citizen‑centric design.
  • Experience uncovering existing system context and providing technical‑discovery recommendations and prototypes.
  • Experience analyzing impacts, exposure, and risk as they relate to solution and data architecture.

Implementation & Technical Guidance

  • Experience guiding teams through implementation of digital services and integration patterns.
  • Experience determining tactical integration approaches and defining target system boundaries and interactions.
  • Experience identifying and leveraging common components and capabilities across digital services.
  • Experience providing guidance on detailed designs for solution and data‑layer implementation.

Coding & Team Collaboration

  • Experience reviewing code changes and, where appropriate, contributing to code to implement user stories and technical tasks.
  • Experience coaching and mentoring product and technical teams on architecture, design, and best practices.

Communication & Documentation

  • Experience providing architecture information to both technical and non‑technical audiences using documents, diagrams, and presentations tailored to the audience.
  • Experience creating and maintaining architecture artifacts that evolve as user and business needs change.

Key Responsibilities Solution Architecture Leadership

  • Lead the solution architecture of digital services by:
  • Developing the overall architectural plan with a citizen‑centered, Agile‑oriented approach.
  • Uncovering existing system context and dependencies.
  • Providing recommendations and prototypes for technical discovery and feasibility.
  • Delivering and being accountable for solution designs that support iterative implementation.
  • Analyzing impacts, exposure, and risk related to solution and data designs.

Implementation Guidance

  • Guide the team in the implementation of digital services by:
  • Facilitating frequent delivery of increments to ensure the target architecture is realized.
  • Defining the tactical approach to each integration and target system‑boundary interactions.
  • Identifying opportunities to leverage common components and shared capabilities of other digital services.
  • Encouraging team contribution toward reusable patterns and shared services.
  • Providing guidance on creating detailed designs for solution and data‑layer implementation.
  • Reviewing code changes and, where relevant, contributing to code to implement user stories or technical tasks.
  • Providing coaching and mentorship to the product team on architecture and design.

Architecture & Strategy Contribution

  • Contribute to the architectural vision for a platform of user‑centric digital services, with a focus on re‑using common components and capabilities to accelerate delivery.
  • Contribute to the development of architectural principles, metrics, and standards for service quality and delivery.
  • Support the evolution of Services and Materials (artifacts) in response to emerging user and business needs, design opportunities, and technical changes.

Communication & Documentation

  • Create and maintain architecture documentation, diagrams, and presentations suitable for technical teams, business stakeholders, and senior leadership.
  • Ensure that architecture descriptions and artifacts are clear, up to date, and aligned with Agile and product‑backlog progression.

Continuous Improvement

  • Actively participate in the continuous improvement of the enterprise‑architecture practice within the Province.
  • Collaborate with the Government of Alberta and contractor leadership to refine Services and Materials through evolving artifacts and feedback loops.

  • Contributing to architectural principles, metrics, and standards

  • Producing documents, diagrams, and presentations for diverse audiences
  • Maintaining evolving architecture artifacts in Agile environments

Core Architecture Scope

  • Platform: Government‑of‑Alberta digital services with an emphasis on reusable, common components and shared capabilities.
  • Methods: Agile delivery, iterative architecture, citizen‑centric design, continuous discovery and evolutionary artifacts.
  • Focus Areas: Solution architecture, integration design, data‑layer and API‑layer design, shared services and common components.
  • Delivery Model: 100% remote, with work across 1–2 projects, flexible timing based on project needs.

Position Details

  • Fully remote: based in Edmonton, AB, with 100% work from home; Province does not cover travel, relocation, or incidental expenses if onsite meetings are required.
  • Contract duration: initial 8‑month term (Apr 3, 2026 – Dec 3, 2026), extendable by up to 24 months for a total of 36 months, under the same terms.
  • Maximum expected hours per term: 1,960 unless otherwise agreed.
  • Senior Digital / Data Architect role focused on solution‑ and data‑architecture leadership for Government‑of‑Alberta digital services.

Required Qualifications Senior Digital / Data Architects with:

  • Strong experience leading solution and data architecture for large‑scale, enterprise‑level digital services.
  • Experience in Agile and iterative delivery environments, with a citizen‑centric design mindset.
  • Experience designing integration patterns, system boundaries, and reusable components.
  • Experience reviewing code and mentoring technical teams.
  • Proven ability to communicate complex architecture concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Experience working in a public‑sector or highly regulated environment is an asset.
