Job Description

Posted on: August 18, 2026

RWC Counselling & Psychology is growing, and we’re looking for an experienced Mental Health Therapist with advanced training and experience supporting couples through relationship challenges, conflict, communication difficulties, emotional disconnection, and major relationship transitions.

We’re looking for a therapist who genuinely enjoys couples work and understands that relationships are complex. You can hold space for two people at once, recognize the cycle underneath the argument, remain grounded when emotions run high, and help couples move toward greater understanding, accountability, connection, and repair.

This is an opportunity to join a warm, collaborative clinical team while building a meaningful caseload within a growing Calgary practice.

About RWC Counselling & Psychology

At RWC Counselling & Psychology, we believe therapy should be evidence-based, compassionate, collaborative, and deeply human.

Our team provides counselling and psychological services for individuals, couples, families, children, and youth, with areas of focus including:

  • Couples & Relationship Therapy
  • Trauma
  • Anxiety & Depression
  • Family & Youth Therapy
  • Men’s Mental Health
  • Stress & Burnout
  • Grief & Loss
  • Emotional Regulation
  • Life Transitions

We care deeply about the experience of our clients, but we also care about the experience of our clinicians.

We want therapists to have the support, autonomy, collaboration, and professional development they need to do excellent clinical work without feeling like they have to do everything alone.

The Role

As a Mental Health Therapist at RWC, you will maintain your own clinical caseload while working collaboratively as part of our broader clinical team.

A significant portion of your practice will involve couples and relationship therapy, so we are specifically looking for someone who already has training and experience in this area.

Your work may include supporting couples experiencing:

  • Recurring conflict and communication breakdowns
  • Emotional disconnection
  • Attachment injuries
  • Trust concerns
  • Infidelity and betrayal
  • Relationship transitions
  • Intimacy concerns
  • Difficulties with emotional regulation
  • Separation or uncertainty about the future of the relationship
  • Discernment and relationship decision-making

You may also work with individual clients experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, burnout, grief, self-esteem concerns, or relationship difficulties.

What You’ll Be Responsible For: Clinical Care

  • Provide high-quality, evidence-based therapy to couples and individual clients.
  • Complete comprehensive assessments, treatment planning, and ongoing clinical evaluation.
  • Create a therapeutic environment that is compassionate, inclusive, collaborative, and client-centred.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and practise within your scope of competence.
  • Recognize when consultation, additional support, or referral is clinically appropriate.
  • Maintain awareness of risk, safety, and ethical considerations throughout treatment.

Couples & Relationship Therapy

  • Assess relationship patterns rather than simply focusing on the content of individual arguments.
  • Help couples identify recurring conflict cycles and underlying attachment needs.
  • Support emotional regulation during difficult conversations.
  • Facilitate healthier communication, accountability, repair, and reconnection.
  • Maintain a balanced therapeutic alliance with both partners.
  • Work effectively with complex relationship concerns while remaining grounded and clinically thoughtful.
  • Collaborate with individual therapists or other professionals when appropriate and with client consent.

Documentation & Professional Standards

  • Complete clinical documentation accurately and within required timelines.
  • Maintain charts in accordance with professional, ethical, legal, and clinic standards.
  • Maintain appropriate informed consent and confidentiality practices.
  • Remain in good standing with your professional association or regulatory body.
  • Maintain professional liability insurance and required continuing education.

Collaboration & Professional Development

  • Participate in team meetings, consultation, and collaborative case discussions.
  • Be open to feedback, reflection, and continued professional growth.
  • Contribute to a respectful, supportive, and accountable team culture.
  • Participate in professional development relevant to your clinical areas of practice.
  • Collaborate with colleagues when clients would benefit from multidisciplinary support.

Qualifications

We are looking for an experienced mental health professional who brings both strong clinical skills and genuine warmth to their work.

Required

  • Master’s degree in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or another related mental health discipline.
  • Registered Psychologist, Master of Social Work, Provisional Psychologist
  • Professional liability insurance.
  • Experience providing psychotherapy or counselling to adults.
  • Training and clinical experience working with couples and relationship concerns an asset.
  • Strong understanding of ethical practice, informed consent, confidentiality, risk assessment, documentation, and professional standards.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while also being an engaged member of a collaborative clinical team.
  • Ability to provide in-person counselling services in Calgary, Alberta.

Strong Assets

We would especially love to hear from clinicians with training or experience in:

  • Gottman Method Couples Therapy
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
  • Attachment-based approaches
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS)
  • Relational Life Therapy
  • Betrayal and infidelity recovery
  • Discernment counselling
  • Trauma-informed therapy
  • EMDR or ART
  • CBT, ACT, or DBT
  • Neurodiverse relationships

You do not need to be trained in every modality listed above. We are much more interested in clinicians who have a strong clinical foundation, meaningful couples experience, and a commitment to continued learning.

Clinical Expectations

The successful candidate will:

  • Maintain consistent weekly availability for clients.
  • Carry a caseload that includes couples and individual clients.
  • Offer in-person appointments at our Calgary clinic, with virtual services available where appropriate.
  • Must be available to hold a case load of Minimum 10 clients/week
  • Maintain timely and professional communication with clients and the RWC administrative team.
  • Complete documentation according to clinic expectations.
  • Participate in team meetings and clinical consultation.
  • Be committed to providing exceptional care that reflects the values of RWC Counselling & Psychology.

Who Will Thrive Here

You may be a great fit if you are someone who:

  • Loves doing meaningful relationship work.
  • Can sit comfortably with emotion, conflict, complexity, and uncertainty.
  • Understands that couples therapy requires more than simply teaching communication skills.
  • Is warm and compassionate while still being willing to gently challenge clients when needed.
  • Values accountability without shame.
  • Is curious rather than judgmental.
  • Takes your clinical work seriously without taking yourself too seriously.
  • Wants autonomy but also values being part of a team.
  • Believes great therapists should never stop learning.
  • Wants to work somewhere that values both clinical excellence and being a genuinely good human.

Why Join RWC?

RWC Counselling & Psychology is continuing to grow, and we are intentionally building a team of clinicians who care deeply about the work they do and the people they work alongside.

You’ll have the opportunity to develop your areas of specialization, build a strong clinical caseload, collaborate with experienced clinicians, and be part of a practice expanding its therapy, assessment, group, and educational services.

Most importantly, we want RWC to be a place where clinicians can do excellent work, continue growing professionally, and still have a life outside of the therapy room.

Benefits

  • Flexible schedule
  • Hybrid work opportunities
  • Collaborative clinical team
  • Clinical consultation and professional support
  • Administrative support
  • Established referral network
  • Opportunities for professional development
  • Opportunities to participate in groups, programs, and future clinic initiatives
