Job DescriptionRESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS). Position Summary Under the direct supervision of the Technical Services Director, the Sustainable Development Officer is responsible for implementing and piloting sustainable development initiatives and projects at the RI-MUHC. The incumbent reports directly to the Director and works in close collaboration with administrative departments, Research Programs, researchers, students, principal investigators (PIs), and staff. The role involves identifying, developing, and strengthening sustainability initiatives within laboratories and operational units. The incumbent’s work directly supports the implementation of RI-MUHC’s Sustainability Strategy, aligned with the 2030 vision. The position also aims to formally establish and manage the INPACT Office General Duties
- Establish and lead a Sustainable Working Group, including organizing meetings and developing standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Chair and coordinate meetings in collaboration with the Technical Services team, as required.
- Liaise with the research community, program managers, and divisions across all levels to identify and assess sustainable development initiatives and areas of interest.
- Participate in the design, development, and implementation of the RI Sustainable Lab Guide.
- Collaborate closely with laboratories to pilot third-party green lab certification programs.
- Support and coordinate the Green Lab Certification Program in partnership with My Green Lab, including structuring incentives, compiling reports, and providing updates and feedback to stakeholders.
- Organize and launch the annual Freezer Challenge in collaboration with My Green Lab, and support participating laboratories.
- Sustain and enhance existing sustainability initiatives across the RI, including recycling and other environmental programs.
- Audit laboratory environmental practices and provide direct support to implement greener operations.
- Conduct site assessments and surveys, track progress, and prepare reports and presentations on findings.
- Develop and present the annual sustainability strategy, budget, and cost projections to the Technical Services Director.
- Organize the annual Earth Day event, engaging both internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with Communications to prepare news articles, internal announcements, and social media content.
- Develop and execute awareness campaigns and educational materials (e.g., energy-saving challenges, infographics) to increase engagement.
- Proactively propose innovative sustainability initiatives and continuously enhance the INPACT brand and visibility.
- Develop and maintain internal and external sustainable development web pages.
- Engage with the RI-MUHC community to identify needs and implement appropriate sustainability actions.
- Identify and pursue sustainable development grant opportunities locally and internationally, and advise on implementation strategies suited to RI-MUHC.

- Advanced knowledge of oral and written French is required.
- An advanced knowledge of oral and written English is required, as the position requires regular and complex contact with researchers or international students who are exclusively proficient in English.

Additional information Status : Full-time. Pay Scale: $49,722.40-$92,346.80. Commensuration with education and experience.
