Senior Distribution Designer/Engineer

height="0" width="0" style="display:none;visibility:hidden"> Senior Distribution Designer/Engineer POWER Engineers, Inc. seeks a Senior Distribution Designer/Engineer in our Airdrie, or Edmonton, Alberta office. Roles and Responsibilities

• Develop new designs by applying knowledge of electric utility systems and their operation
• Apply engineering calculations to various project challenges to develop complete and competent designs
• Prepare and check design deliverables, including plan and profile drawings, material selection, and construction specifications
• Prioritize work and manage multiple projects under budget and time constraints
• Manage and develop project estimates, schedules, bids, and engineering support
• Compilation of design packages for construction
• Perform quality reviews of project deliverables
• Network with clients and maintain client relationships
• Some travel will be required

Required Education/Experience

• A Bachelor’s degree or a Technology diploma in Civil or Electrical Engineering from a university accredited by Engineers Canada; additional engineering backgrounds will be considered
• Eight (8) + years of experience in the design and operation of overhead and underground distribution lines
• Experience in the design, operation, construction, and maintenance of overhead and underground distribution lines
• Exposure to utility standards, CSA, and an understanding of powerline construction techniques
• Ability to work in design teams and is self-motivated to perform assigned tasks and take the initiative to learn the position
• The ability to lead and direct a team of Engineers, Designers, and Drafters
• Experience using the Microsoft Office software suite
• Must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
• Ability to travel to the USA on occasion for training or client meetings
• Must have a strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
• Must be able to pass a client's background check along with client drug and alcohol screening processes as required

Desired Education/Experience

• Ten (10) + years of experience in the design and operation of overhead and underground distribution lines
• Prior utility design experience or distribution line work in the Alberta market is highly preferred
• Strong computer design skills, the ability to learn new software packages efficiently, and retain and apply on-the-job training
• Exposure to non-linear powerline design software such as PLS-CADD, SPIDAcalc, etc.
• The candidate must have strong written and oral communication skills in the English language to communicate effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
• Managerial and leadership experience is an asset
