We are seeking to appoint a Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedics with a specialist interest in Lower Limb Trauma and/or foot and ankle surgery. This post will support the delivery of high-quality elective and trauma care within our busy Orthopaedic department, contributing to both inpatient and outpatient services.
The successful candidate will join a supportive and forward-thinking team of consultants. This role is essential in maintaining clinical continuity in Lower Limb services and offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to contribute to service development and multidisciplinary care.
The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital has an Orthopaedic Department comprising of 40 Consultants with Specialist Interests in Hip, Knee, Upper Limb, Foot and Ankle, Pelvis, Limb Reconstruction, Brachial Plexus and Spine. The Consultant will be expected to provide in-patient services at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. Outpatient services are currently across the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital., Gartnavel General Hospital and the New Victoria ACH.
Day surgery facilities are available at Gartnavel General Hospital and the Victoria ACH. Consultants work in teams of 3 to provide general trauma cover services. The QEUH is a designated as a Level 3 Trauma Centre and it is expected that the successful applicant will actively participate in the development of a Managed Clinical Network in Orthopaedic Trauma. The postholder will be expected to participate in the on-call rota and provide supervision to junior medical staff.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will be responsible for delivering high-quality care in trauma and orthopaedics, with a specialist focus on Lower Limb Trauma Surgery and/or foot and ankle surgery. Duties will include elective and trauma operating, outpatient clinics, and participation in the on-call rota. The post also includes supervision of junior medical staff and involvement in clinical governance activities.
In addition to providing clinical services the successful candidate will be required to undertake the administrative duties required in a consultant job.
Applicants must have full GMC registration, a license to practice and be eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or eligibility for specialist registration (CESR) or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.
