Position Summary
NewFields Canada Inc. (NewFields) is a Saskatoon based consulting engineering firm. NewFields specializes in projects related to natural resource developments with a strong focus on mine waste (tailings) management facilities. The disciplinary complexity of NewFields project portfolio requires a diverse team of professionals to deliver effective client solutions. NewFields is seeking an Intermediate Water Resources Engineer/Specialist to join our growing operation. The Engineer/Specialist will be responsible for project management, water resources field programs, data management, engineering analyses (hydraulics and hydrology), tailings facility and site-wide water balances for mining projects in Canada and internationally, as well as various environmental and flooding related project work. This position may also include other duties in support of other technical disciplines.
The ideal candidate shall have excellent problem-solving and analytical skills and exercise sound judgment with a desire to learn new skills. The position requires superior written and oral skills and the ability to interface effectively with project teams and clients. The ideal candidate shall be able to conduct business in a collaborative environment with minimal supervision. The position may require field work, potentially in remote field camps, the ideal candidate shall be comfortable in remote field situations and be capable of strenuous physical labour associated with some field programs.
Position Requirements
Education Requirement: BS in Civil or Environmental Engineering or equivalent.
Experience Requirement: 5-10 years of work experience with a proven track record in project management and delivery. Experience with field work, surveying, data analysis, technical reporting, hydraulic and hydrologic modelling preferred.
Professional Licensure: A registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or meet the requirements for registration with the Association of Professional Engineers & Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS) or other professional regulatory and licensure body in Canada.
Computer Software: Proficiency using HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, GeoHECHMS, FLO-2D Pro, MatLab, R, and MS Office Suite; numerical modelling experience, GoldSim is advantageous. Experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D or GIS would be a benefit.
Travel: Domestic and foreign travel may be required.
Physical Demands: Position may require sitting for long periods of time, extended hours working on a computer. Field assignments may be in remote locations with limited communications available and with a variety of climatic conditions, and may require standing, squatting, bending, the use of machinery, lifting up to 40 pounds and the use of a variety of tools and equipment.
