Job Title: Senior Advisor, Health & Safety CommunicationsLocation: Calgary, AB.

Contract Length: 8 months

Schedule: Monday – Friday, On Site.

Position Overview

The Senior Advisor, Health & Safety Communications provides strategic communications leadership and advisory support to the Health & Safety team. This role is accountable for developing and executing integrated communication strategies that reinforce safety as top value and support the safety of employees, contractors, communities, and the environment.

The Senior Advisor leads the planning, development, and delivery of communications related to safety commitments, safety culture and behaviors, and occupational, deployed, and process safety. This includes translating complex technical, regulatory, and operational information into clear, consistent, and engaging messaging that aligns with business priorities, corporate values, and brand standards.

As a trusted advisor to senior Health & Safety leaders, this role provides strategic counsel on messaging, positioning, and stakeholder engagement. The Senior Advisor leverages a broad range of internal communication channels and tactics—including digital platforms, leadership communications, campaigns, and storytelling—and collaborates closely with colleagues across Internal Communications, External Communications, and Operations Communications to ensure alignment, consistency, and impact.

Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Communications Leadership

  • Develop and implement comprehensive Health & Safety communications strategies, plans, and campaigns.
  • Lead communications related to safety culture and behaviors, occupational safety, deployed safety, and process safety.
  • Translate complex technical, regulatory, and operational information into clear, engaging, and accessible communications.

Advisory & Stakeholder Support

  • Provide strategic communications advice and coaching to Health & Safety leadership and subject matter experts.
  • Act as a trusted advisor on messaging, positioning, and stakeholder engagement for senior H&S leaders.
  • Maintain regular engagement with the Vice President, Health & Safety (Canada), providing project updates and communications guidance aligned with corporate priorities.

Content Development & Channel Management

  • Manage and update Health & Safety-related content on internal and external digital platforms.
  • Prepare communications materials for Health & Safety governance forums, including the Safety Operations and Risk Subcommittee.
  • Support Health & Safety communications for external and annual publications

Communications Planning & Execution

  • Support the planning and execution of Health & Safety awareness events for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead planning and delivery of Health & Safety town halls, including content development, Q&A preparation, logistics, and event coordination.
  • Attend and present communications updates at the monthly Health & Safety Leadership meeting.

Alignment & Measurement

  • Partner with Internal, External, and Operations Communications teams to ensure consistent and aligned messaging.
  • Ensure all communications adhere to business strategy, brand standards, values, and governance requirements.
  • Measure communications effectiveness and apply insights to continuously improve outcomes.

QualificationsExperience

  • 8–10 years of proven experience in communications, public relations, or a related field.
  • Prior experience supporting Health & Safety, operations, or technical functions is strongly preferred.
  • Experience within the oil & gas or energy industry is an asset.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong proficiency with digital communications tools, platforms, and content management systems.
  • Ability to translate complex and technical information into clear and compelling narratives.
  • Solid understanding of the oil & gas industry, including regulatory, operational, and reputational considerations.
  • Familiarity with crisis and issues-management communications.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and confidence working with senior leaders.
