Position Overview:

We are seeking a Reactive Equipment Maintenance Engineer (Electrical) to join our Maintenance & Operations Engineering Support (MOES) Department. Under the general direction of the Section Head of MOES Electrical Section A, will be responsible for providing technical expertise on the maintenance, condition monitoring, overhaul, repair and replacement of reactive equipment while maintaining safe, economic and reliable operation of Transmission, Distribution, Converter and Generation assets.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership, support, training and guidance to operational technical staff in the maintenance, testing, commissioning and operation of reactive equipment.
  • Lead work with Operations, Asset Management and Engineering departments to identify needs, prioritization and project scope requirements for future maintenance and capital investment.
  • Lead root-cause analysis and provide recommended failure prevention measures on equipment forced outages.
  • Initiate and help prepare capital and special maintenance estimates needed to implement improvement projects.
  • Lead failure investigations and repair methods and create test plans for the restoration of failed equipment.
  • Participate in scope development and prepare condition assessments, technical specifications, recommendations, and estimates for reactive assets.
  • Evaluate and support maintenance programs and procedures used for repetitive field maintenance, testing and commissioning. Participate in maintenance plan reviews to align maintenance on reactive equipment in the corporation.
  • Maintain updated information in MOES work management system.
  • Conduct studies and prepare reports regarding the repair or replacement of equipment taking into account reliability, economics and life expectancy.
  • Prepare engineering drawings for electrical systems and apparatus in compliance with design criteria, industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead the development of maintenance emergency spare stock and parts criteria taking into account the installed base, failure rates, cost, availability and upcoming maintenance.
  • Work with internal engineering group(s), external suppliers, contractors and consultants to ensure that the equipment and installation meets performance requirements.
  • Establish training requirements related to current and new equipment.
  • Required to review clearances and releases on equipment that testing is to be performed on.
  • Prepare and modify maintenance and operations procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate in Electrical Engineering from a university of recognized standing with a minimum of six years of relevant experience, which includes a minimum of three years of field experience directly related to the design, operations and/or maintenance of HVDC/reactive equipment.
  • Must obtain and maintain a current Personnel Risk Assessment and a "Clear" security rating in accordance with Manitoba Hydro policy P513.
  • Professional member in good standing with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (or willingness and ability to attain within a specified amount of time).
  • Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) training is required and must be completed upon start date and renewed annually.
  • General knowledge in the standards, theory, maintenance, testing, and operation of HVDC, reactive and related equipment.
  • Have an understanding of maintenance principles, maintenance standards, task templates, practices and procedures relating to responsible equipment.
  • Experience in developing maintenance standards and strategies based on industry best practices and/or RCM methodologies.
  • Prepared to travel and remain at work sites for extended periods of time in performance of duties on short notice.
  • Safety conscious and knowledgeable about corporate safety rules and regulations.
  • Self-motivated to carry out assigned duties with minimum supervision.
  • Demonstrated aptitude and capability for providing technical support to field staff.
  • Familiar with, SAP PM (EAM), Documentum, Matlab, PSCAD and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Possess and maintain a valid class 5 Manitoba Driver's Licence.

Salary Range

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $48.74-$67.29 Hourly, $93,398.24-$128,947.78 Annually.
