Leap Recruitment Partners is partnering with a well-established litigation practice seeking an experienced Insurance Defence Law Clerk to support a high-performing defence team handling Accident Benefits and Tort matters.
This is a litigation-focused opportunity for a defence-trained professional who understands insurer protocols, procedural timelines, and how to actively move files forward.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a confident, detail-driven Law Clerk who can independently manage files within a structured insurance defence environment.
You will work closely with lawyers and insurance carriers to support litigation strategy, ensure procedural compliance, and drive files from intake through resolution.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a billable environment and understands the pace and precision required in defence litigation.
The Mission
Support the Litigation Strategy — Not Just the Paperwork.
Deliver organized, proactive file management across Accident Benefits and Tort matters while ensuring compliance with insurer reporting standards and court timelines.
Key Responsibilities
• Litigation File Management – Review files, identify next procedural steps, and ensure matters progress efficiently
• Drafting & Documentation – Prepare Statements of Defence, motion materials, LAT responses, pleadings, and correspondence
• Hearing & Discovery Preparation – Assist with case conferences, discoveries, and pre-hearing preparation
• Insurer Reporting Compliance – Manage L&A coding, billing protocols, and carrier-specific reporting requirements
• Timeline Discipline – Monitor limitation periods, court deadlines, and procedural milestones
• Cross-Team Collaboration – Work closely with lawyers and administrative staff to support litigation strategy
What You Bring
• Defence-Side Experience – 3–5+ years of recent insurance defence experience (Accident Benefits and Tort preferred)
• Procedural Confidence – Strong understanding of Ontario litigation processes and LAT procedures
• Billable Environment Experience – Comfortable working within a 1400-hour annual target structure
• File Ownership Mindset – Ability to independently assess files and determine next steps
• Organizational Strength – Exceptional attention to detail and time management skills
Technical Qualifications
• Law Clerk diploma or equivalent legal education
• Minimum 3–5 years of litigation experience within insurance defence
• Strong knowledge of insurer reporting protocols and L&A coding
• Proficiency in legal software and document management systems
Work Model & Compensation
• First 4 weeks in-office for onboarding
• Hybrid schedule thereafter (2 days in office; 3 days during Core Week)
• Salary starting at $75,000+, negotiable based on experience
• Annual billable target: 1400 hours minimum
