What We Look For In a Philosophy Tutor

• Advanced Subject Mastery: Deep knowledge of epistemology, metaphysics, ethics, logic, philosophy of mind, political philosophy, aesthetics, and the history of philosophy from ancient Greeks through contemporary thinkers. Guides students through evaluating validity and soundness of arguments, comparing ethical theories including utilitarianism and deontology, analyzing thought experiments, and constructing well-reasoned philosophical essays. Emphasizes developing critical thinking skills and connects philosophy to law, medicine, technology ethics, and public policy debates.
• Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Familiar with philosophy curricula from introductory through advanced levels and common challenges such as understanding abstract concepts, constructing formal logical arguments, and engaging with dense philosophical texts. Adapts instruction using thought experiments, structured discussion, and guided reading strategies to support students from introductory philosophy through advanced undergraduate and pre-graduate coursework.
• Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
