Your New Role:
This is an exciting opportunity for a Certified Safety Manager to join a growing and innovative team in the electrical construction industry. The successful candidate will work closely with the Site Superintendent to ensure that all safety policies, procedures, and WorkSafeBC regulations are followed on-site. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about promoting a culture of safety and is ready to take ownership of health and safety practices on a busy construction site.
The Certified Safety Manager will ensure that all workers on-site receive proper orientation and are trained and competent to perform their tasks. They will provide safety and protective equipment to workers as required and enforce all safety rules, regulations, policies, and procedures through direct supervision. Frequent site inspections will be conducted to identify and document any unsafe work practices or conditions, and corrective actions will be taken promptly.
All incidents, accidents, and near-misses must be documented in a timely and accurate manner. The manager will deliver regular safety talks and maintain records in accordance with company policy. They will also recognize and document positive safety performance among workers and ensure compliance with the Prime Contractor’s emergency response plan.
The manager will attend all job site safety committee meetings, post meeting minutes, and submit them along with the monthly safety report. They will ensure that subcontractors actively participate in the site safety committee. Additionally, they will prepare monthly summary reports detailing incidents, first aid statistics, and other relevant safety data for management review. The manager will support the enforcement of the non-compliance policy and assist in addressing safety violations in line with disciplinary procedures. They will also maintain records of all site-specific safe work procedures for both internal teams and subcontractors.
What You'll Need to Succeed:
Candidates must hold a valid CSO or NCSO certification and have a minimum of three years of field safety experience in a construction environment. You must also have valid COR certification, along with a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle. Previous experience working with WorkBC is a must. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of WorkSafeBC Occupational Health and Safety Regulations. They should be comfortable working with digital safety tools such as iPads and the Salus App. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, along with a proven ability to lead by example and foster a culture of safety on-site.
