Hawthorne Recruitment is proud to partner with the Macklan Group of Companies in their search for a Senior Estimator to join DORA Construction, a respected Atlantic Canadian builder recognized for delivering technically complex projects with a strong focus on collaboration, quality, and community impact across Nova Scotia.

The Senior Estimator will play a key role in DORA’s preconstruction efforts, supporting a diverse portfolio that includes multi residential developments, prefabricated and modular construction, mass timber, light steel framing, historic restorations, and commercial and institutional projects. This role requires a strong command of construction costs, materials, and methods, along with the ability to lead detailed estimates from early concept through final pricing.

Responsibilities include preparing comprehensive cost estimates and material takeoffs, developing and validating cost assemblies, coordinating with consultants, engineers, vendors, and internal teams, and identifying value engineering opportunities that support both cost certainty and design intent. The Senior Estimator will also maintain historical cost data, assess the cost implications of scope or design changes, and contribute to continuous improvement of estimating practices. Ongoing collaboration with project teams and periodic site engagement are important to ensure estimates remain accurate and aligned with real world conditions.

The ideal candidate brings 7+ years of estimating experience within commercial and multi residential construction, with a proven ability to manage complex estimates across multiple project types. Strong technical knowledge of wood framed, concrete, steel, and mass timber construction is essential. A background in construction management, engineering, or a related discipline is preferred, along with strong proficiency in estimating tools, advanced Excel skills, and the ability to clearly communicate technical information. Attention to detail, sound judgment, and a collaborative working style are critical for success in this role.
