Job Summary
The Supervisor, Custodial Services is responsible for leading daily custodial operations to ensure facilities remain clean, safe, hygienic, and welcoming for employees, visitors, customers, and building occupants. This position provides direct supervision to custodial employees, coordinates cleaning schedules, monitors service quality, ensures compliance with health and safety requirements, and supports operational excellence through effective workforce, equipment, and supply management.
As a frontline leader, the Supervisor promotes a culture of accountability, professionalism, customer service, and continuous improvement while supporting the overall performance of the facility and client satisfaction.
Responsibilities
- Supervise, assign, and monitor the work of custodial staff to ensure all cleaning activities are completed according to established standards.
- Provide leadership, coaching, training, and performance feedback to custodial team members.
- Develop, maintain, and optimize cleaning schedules for routine cleaning, deep cleaning, washroom servicing, floor care, waste removal, and disinfection activities.
- Conduct regular inspections and quality audits using inspection tools and reporting systems.
- Ensure compliance with occupational health, safety, environmental, and site-specific requirements.
- Monitor the safe operation, storage, cleaning, inspection, and maintenance of custodial equipment.
- Collaborate with maintenance, operations, security, administrative teams, and client representatives to coordinate activities and resolve service issues.
- Investigate and respond to custodial service requests, concerns, and complaints.
- Support onboarding and ongoing training related to cleaning procedures, equipment operation, safety requirements, and customer service expectations.
- Maintain accurate records related to inspections, training, incidents, and operational activities.
- Monitor inventory levels and ensure the availability of cleaning supplies and consumables.
- Participate in emergency response activities including spills, severe weather cleanup, water intrusion events, infection control protocols, and post-event cleaning requirements.
- Promote industry best practices that support service consistency, quality control, operational efficiency, and safe work execution.
- Authorized to work in Canada.
- Ability to successfully obtain and maintain required background checks and security clearances.
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in custodial services, janitorial operations, or facility services.
- Minimum 1 to 3 years of supervisory or leadership experience.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise diverse teams, assign work, monitor performance, and resolve operational issues.
- Strong knowledge of custodial cleaning methods, sanitation standards, disinfection procedures, and floor care programs.
- Knowledge of WHMIS, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), chemical handling, storage, and workplace safety requirements.
- Experience operating and overseeing commercial cleaning equipment including auto-scrubbers, burnishers, vacuums, carpet extractors, and related equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret work orders, schedules, safety procedures, inspection reports, and operating instructions.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage changing priorities.
- Proficiency with basic computer applications including Microsoft Office and inspection management systems.
