OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH NURSE – PART TIME/ CASUALTHE ROLE:
As an Occupational Health Nurse, you are relied upon to deliver health education, promote employee health and employee ability. Your days are never the same; one day you’re on a client site in Northern Alberta performing audiometric and pulmonary function tests, the next you’re leading an influenza vaccination clinic in an urban office. Our clients seek world-class OH services and you’re the critical professional that directly keeps employees healthy, educated of job hazards, and safe.
THE RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Maintain current knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation and guidelines to ensure organizational compliance
· Conduct comprehensive pre-placement and periodic health assessments for diverse employee populations
· Manage abnormal assessment results through appropriate healthcare referrals and follow-up protocols
· Provide targeted health education to employees regarding identified workplace hazards and exposure risks
· Initiate workers' compensation claims and short-term disability programs with focus on prevention strategies
· Develop and oversee modified work programs with early intervention return-to-work protocols
· Maintain occupational health field equipment according to established company standards
· Review vaccination histories and administer immunizations via intramuscular injection using clinical judgment
· Ensure strict adherence to provincial immunization guidelines and cold chain storage protocols
· Assess and provide immediate response to urgent medical situations and workplace emergencies
· Oversee daily clinic operations and coordinate delivery of comprehensive occupational health services
· Provide occupational health services specifically tailored to company need.
· Monitor and maintain adequate inventory levels of medical supplies and clinic equipment
· Perform specialized medical assessments including aviation, pre-employment, and pre-travel evaluations
· Conduct certified diagnostic testing including audiometry, spirometry, vision screening, and substance collection procedures
· Execute respiratory protection fit testing for various equipment types (N95, half-mask, SCBA units)
· Review diagnostic test results and coordinate referrals to external healthcare providers when indicated
· Collaborate with public health agencies on occupational health initiatives and quality assurance programs
· Provide case management services including fitness-for-duty evaluations and serious adverse event monitoring

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN)
· Active membership in AOHNA
· Active member of CARNA
· Minimum 3 years OH experience, clinical field work preferred.
· Audiometric certification (current within 3 years)
· Spirometry certification (current within 5 years)
· CPR Health Care Provider Level with AED training
