As General Superintendent, you will serve as a senior leader responsible for guiding the successful delivery of complex construction projects from concept to completion. You will mentor and manage field leadership teams and trade professionals, championing safety, quality, and operational excellence. You will partner closely with the Operations Manager to guide and assist the Pre-Construction team with the assessment and pursuit of new work, providing detailed work plans and recommendations. You will help shape and implement company systems and best practices that elevate organizational culture, drive productivity, and reinforce professionalism across the organization. You will also oversee trade partner coordination to ensure exceptional workmanship, schedule adherence, and strong, trust-based relationships with clients, owners, unions, and project stakeholders. This role reports directly to the President.

Key Responsibilities
- Leadership, Training & Mentorship: Provide ongoing coaching and professional development to site leadership in construction methodologies, cost control, scheduling, client relations, risk management, and dispute resolution.
- Operational Oversight & Site Performance: Conduct regular site visits to review site management practices, productivity, safety compliance, personnel performance, and opportunities for improvement.
- Schedule & Cost Control Management: Work closely with Pre-Construction to develop master schedules for potential and secured projects as well as oversee active project schedules and on-site cost control systems, including labour productivity tracking and committed cost reviews with Project Managers and Estimators.
- Client & Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain regular communication with clients and site teams to ensure work quality, documentation, safety, and overall performance meet expectations.
- Safety Leadership & Compliance: Partner with the HSE Manager to lead the company safety program, promote a strong safety culture, assess and mitigate hazards, review safety budgets, and ensure adherence to Project Specific Safety Plans.
- Logistics & Site Infrastructure Coordination: Coordinate site logistics including trailers, tool storage, staging areas, crane locations, deliveries, and shop activities to maximize efficiency and cost effectiveness.
- Process Improvement & Innovation: Champion continuous improvement by identifying and implementing industry advancements, construction technologies, and improved production and scheduling practices.
- People Management & Workforce Development: Support recruitment, performance reviews, promotions, workforce planning, vacation coordination, and disciplinary actions in collaboration with Operations and Safety leadership.
- Company Representation & Governance: Participate in superintendent meetings, industry associations, committees, company policy development, and manage deficiency, warranty, and close-out activities.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of construction superintendent experience, preferably with a general contractor.
- Trade background with progressive experience in general contracting.
- Direct experience with municipalities and navigation of permit processes.
- Post-secondary industry education in Construction, Safety, or equivalent in company training.
- Experience working on and independently leading multiple projects with $10-50+ million-dollar budgets.
- Advanced understanding of construction techniques, labor scheduling, and cost control methods.
- Proven experience with effective supervision of large groups of employees.
- Strong people skills and excellent communication, organizational, and planning skills.
- The ability to navigate complex human resources issues to a positive outcome.
- Proficiency in construction scheduling software (e.g., Microsoft Projects, Autodesk tools).
