Service: Housing & Homelessness Services Branch: Homelessness Systems & Operations Branch Employment Type: Multiple Casual Positions Affiliation: CUPE 503 Inside/Outside Salary Information: $31.118 - $36.410 per hour (2024 rates of pay) Location: Various Locations City: Ottawa, ON Job Category: Community and Social Services Application Close: 08/08/2025Job Summary The Shelter Support Worker (SSW) works within a multi-disciplinary setting using a consultative and team approach to provide support and services to families, couples and individuals who are homeless within the City of Ottawa's Family Transitional Housing & Offsite Services to ensure a safe and secure living/working environment, to support the stabilization and implementation of the Client Service Plan. Education And Experience Completion of Grade 12 Community college diploma or university degree in a related field is desirable Minimum of 1 year of related experience in a social services setting CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES Current Standard First Aid, CPR and/or AED certificates are assets Crisis Prevention/Intervention training certificate is an asset KNOWLEDGE

- Strong knowledge of Ottawa’s shelter system and supporting agencies
- Social services agencies and programs
- City of Ottawa policies and procedures, departmental policies and procedures
- Case management process for shelters
- Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers
- Training on HIFIS is desirable

What You Need To Know
- Language Requirement: Various language requirements, locations may require English only, French only OR Bilingual competencies. Some positions require English oral, reading, and writing. Some positions required French oral, reading and writing.
- Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check (Level 3) with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa’s satisfaction.; Note: Under the age of 18, requires a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters (Level 2) check in place of the Vulnerable Sector Check (Level 3).; Police record checks completed by a third-party company will not be accepted.
- You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.
