The North Saskatchewan River Valley is a world class parks system, with 7,400 hectares, 150 kilometres of trail and 23 major parks. As a Crew Leader for River Valley Parks, you will be an integral part of ensuring citizens can enjoy the parks and related services year-round. You will use your leadership skills to ensure work plans are executed in order to maintain the City's invaluable green space! This is a fulfilling seasonal leadership opportunity where you can make a tangible contribution to Edmonton's cherished outdoor spaces. What will you do?

  • Provide front line supervision and mentoring to Labourer I and II staff
  • Organize and lead work in the areas of parks servicing, booking and event support, janitorial and sanitation, and equipment operation
  • Provide direction and training to staff, and review work to ensure it meets required standards
  • Provide hands on leadership by participating in the work being completed by Labourer staff
  • Monitor and evaluate staff performance and attendance. Ensure staff adhere to park service level expectations. Inspect and review parks and buildings on a regular basis to identify deficiencies
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with citizens, partners and event organizers
  • Provide exceptional customer service, and respond to and resolve citizen concerns
  • Liaise with various city sections, branches and departments related to site activities and concerns, including events, programs, bookings, maintenance, repair, safety and security
  • Complete related administrative tasks associated with staff and site responsibilities
  • Ensure work is completed within safety standards, and respond to any safety related issues or concerns
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications:

  • 2-year Diploma in Horticulture, Environmental Studies, Landscaping Management, Parks Management, Recreation, or a related discipline
  • 3 years experience working in River Valley Parks, park operations and/or park maintenance

Assets:

  • Completion of leadership training
  • Valid Intermediate First Aid and CPR

Skills required for success:

  • Demonstrated supervisory skills and ability
  • General knowledge of park maintenance activities, including standard usage of materials, tools and equipment to complete tasks
  • Ability to implement and assign work plans
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures
  • Ability to use computer software such as Google workspace, SAP and Intelli for the completion of various records
  • Excellent customer service, communication, interpersonal, organizational, time management and prioritization skills

Conditions of Employment:

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a Class C City Driver’s permit is a requirement of this position.
  • Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment is required.
