Role Description

CanadaWheels is seeking a Front-End Engineer (Intermediate/Senior) for a full-time, on-site role based in Ottawa, ON. The Front-End Engineer will design and implement user-facing features, create responsive web designs, optimize user experiences, and ensure cross-browser compatibility. Additional responsibilities include collaborating with the design and back-end teams to develop seamless integrations, troubleshooting and debugging issues, and contributing to scalable web development efforts using modern technologies.

Responsibilities

•    Own major areas of the product, end to end, across React and PHP

•    Make architectural decisions that affect performance, maintainability, and user experience

•    Lead code review and contribute to technical direction

•    Troubleshoot and resolve issues on the live production system

•    Mentor more junior engineers and help raise the team’s overall bar

What we’re looking for

•    Strong JavaScript and deep React experience, including a working understanding of its rendering model

•    Solid grasp of HTML, CSS, and responsive web design

•    Experience with performance and core web vitals

•    Fluency with the browser as a platform: HTTP, the DOM, performance, accessibility

•    Experience with at least one server-side language (PHP preferred) and willingness to work across the stack

•    Comfort with database design and SQL

•    Track record of shipping production software to real users and supporting it over time

•    Sound judgment about when to reach for a library and when to write something yourself

•    A habit of learning, tinkering, and revisiting your own assumptions

•    Experience with version control (Git)

Nice to have

•    Magento experience

•    Experience with cloud platforms (AWS) or containerization (Docker)

•    Experience using AI tools as part of a coding workflow
