Summary of role:
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Internal Communications, the Senior Advisor, Health & Safety Communications provides strategic communications leadership and advisory support to the Health & Safety team. This role is responsible for developing and executing integrated communications strategies that reinforce safety as the company's top value and support the safety of employees, contractors, communities and the environment.
The Senior Advisor leads the planning, development and delivery of communications related to the company's safety commitments, safety culture and behaviours, as well as occupational, deployed and process safety. This includes translating complex technical, regulatory and operational information into clear, consistent and engaging communications that aligns with company’s business priorities, corporate values and brand standards.
This role acts as a trusted advisor to senior Health & Safety leaders, providing strategic counsel on messaging, positioning and stakeholder engagement. The Senior Advisor leverages a broad range of internal communication channels and tactics — including digital platforms, leadership communications, campaigns and storytelling — and collaborates closely with colleagues across our Internal, External Communications and Operations Communications teams to ensure alignment and impact.
Responsibilities:
•Develop and implement comprehensive Health & Safety communications strategies, plans and campaigns.
•Provide strategic communications advice and coaching to Health & Safety leadership and subject matter experts.
•Lead communications related to safety culture, behaviors, occupational safety, deployed safety and process safety.
•Support regulatory, compliance and mandatory safety communications with clarity and accuracy.
•Partner across communications teams to align messaging for internal and external audiences, as appropriate.
•Support the communications planning of Health & Safety awareness events to acknowledge safety messaging and culture with internal and external stakeholders.
•Ensure communications are aligned with business strategy, values, brand and governance standards.
•Measure communication effectiveness and apply insights to improve outcomes.
•Support planning and execution for dedicated Health & Safety town halls, including preparation of content, Q&A and event logistics and coordination.
•Manage and update Health & Safety content on the company’s internal and external websites.
•Have regular touch points with the VP, Health & Safety (Canada) to provide updates on projects and provide strategic communications guidance on corporate priorities.
•Attend and present communications updates at the Health & Safety Leadership meeting once a month.
•Working with H&S leadership prepare Health & Safety communications materials for the Safety Operations and Risk Subcommittee.
•Support Health & Safety communications for external/annual publications (e.g. Corporate Social Responsibility Report).
Qualifications:
•Experience: Proven experience in communications, public relations, or a related field, preferably within the oil & gas industry.
•Skills: Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, with proficiency in using communication tools and platforms.
•Education: A degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field.
•Knowledge: Understanding of the oil & gas industry, including its challenges and opportunities, and familiarity with crisis communication strategies.
•8-10 years’ experience required.
