Job Description

Posted on: August 14, 2026

Our Client

Our client is a plaintiff-side litigation firm with a strong reputation in the disability and employment law space. Recognized for its commitment to advocating for employees, the firm is seeking an experienced Associate Lawyer (3-5 years' call) to join its growing Labour & Employment group.

This is an excellent opportunity to step into an established practice while playing a meaningful role in its continued growth. The office is conveniently located in midtown Toronto, close to public transit, with a flexible hybrid environment requiring approximately one day per week in the office.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a broad range of plaintiff-side labour and employment matters from intake through resolution.
  • Advocate for employees in wrongful dismissal, human rights, workplace disputes, and related litigation.
  • Handle files from initial consultation through negotiation, mediation, and litigation where required.
  • Work closely with a junior associate and contribute to the continued growth of the practice group.
  • Build strong client relationships and deliver compassionate, strategic legal advice.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in a highly supportive, team-oriented environment.
  • Contribute to business development initiatives and help expand the firm's labour and employment practice.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of plaintiff-side labour and employment law experience.
  • Strong advocacy, negotiation, and client management skills.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with an interest in helping grow an established practice.
  • Ability to independently manage a busy caseload while working collaboratively within a team.
  • Portable book of business is not required.
  • Licensed to practice law in Ontario and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

  • Competitive base salary, plus bonus opportunity.
  • Contingency-based practice with the opportunity to earn a percentage of successful files in addition to base compensation.
  • No billable hour targets - performance is measured by achieving excellent outcomes for clients rather than recording hours.
  • Established practice with strong referral sources and an existing junior associate in place.
  • Flexible hybrid work arrangement with minimal in-office expectations.
