Senior Quality Assurance Tester

Job title: Senior QA Tester (Level 3)

Location: Ottawa, ON

Pay Rate: $80 - $85/hr

Project Scope

The Tester (Level 3) is part of Stream 1 (Application Services) and supports:

• Enterprise application development and maintenance
• System integration involving databases
• Validation of complex, multi-tier systems

Role OverviewRole Purpose

To ensure:

• Application quality
• Functional correctness
• Stability of systems before production release

Core ResponsibilitiesTest Planning & Strategy

• Develop:
• Test plans
• Test strategies
• Test schedules
• Define scope of testing based on requirements

Test Case Development

• Design and document:
• Test cases
• Test scripts
• Test scenarios
• Ensure coverage of:
• Functional requirements
• Business rules
• Integration points

Test Execution

• Execute:
• Functional testing
• Integration testing
• Regression testing
• Validate application behavior against specifications

Defect Management

• Identify, log, and track defects
• Work with development teams to:
• Reproduce issues
• Validate fixes
• Maintain defect lifecycle in tracking tools

Integration & Data Validation

• Validate:
• Application-to-database interactions
• Data accuracy and integrity
• Work with DBAs and data modelers

Collaboration

• Work with:
• System Analysts → validate requirements
• Developers → resolve issues
• Stakeholders → support UAT

User Acceptance Testing (UAT Support)

• Prepare UAT environments and scripts
• Support business users during testing cycles
• Ensure requirements are fully validated

Experience Requirements

• 10+ years of testing/QA experience
• Senior-level exposure to:
• Enterprise applications
• Complex system environments

Required Experience Areas

Functional Testing

• Strong background in:
• Manual testing
• Requirements validation

End-to-End Testing Lifecycle

• Experience across:
• Test planning → execution → defect tracking → reporting

Enterprise Systems

• Testing systems that involve:
• Multiple integrations (APIs, databases, services)
• Understanding of application architecture

Defect & Test Management

• Hands-on experience with:
• Defect lifecycle
• Reporting and metrics

Strongly Preferred

• Federal government experience (NSERC, IRCC, CRA, etc.)
• TBIPS or similar consulting experience
• Experience with large transformation or modernization projects

Tools & TechnologiesTest Tools

• HP ALM / Quality Center
• Jira (with Zephyr or Xray)
• TestRail

Automation (Nice-to-Have)

• Selenium
• Cypress
• API testing tools (Postman, SoapUI)

Supporting Tools

• Azure DevOps
• Confluence / SharePoint

Data / Technical Awareness

• Ability to:
• Query databases (SQL basics)
• Validate backend data
• Understanding of:
• Data flows
• Integration points

Security & Work ConditionsClearance
