Edmonton Region, Alberta | Contract Position | Approx. 35 hrs/week
The Beaver Hills Biosphere Region Association (BHBRA) is seeking an experienced, strategic and relationship‑focused Executive Director (in a contract role) to lead revenue development, manage operations, advance the Biosphere’s mission and strengthen partnerships across governments, Indigenous communities, academia, nonprofit organizations and community groups. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director serves as the senior operating officer responsible for the day-to-day operations of the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic & Operational Leadership: Implement board direction, prepare and implement annual work plans and budgets, ensure effective governance and maintain compliant, efficient organizational systems.
- Financial Management: Lead budgeting, revenue generation, expenditure control and financial reporting.
- Revenue Development: Execute a diversified revenue generation strategy that includes grants, partnerships, sponsorships and philanthropy; steward key funders and donors.
- Program & Operations Oversight: Manage staff/contractors, plan and deliver programs and initiatives, evaluate opportunities, improve systems and adopt technologies that enhance organizational performance.
- Risk & Compliance: Ensure transparency, regulatory compliance, accurate record-keeping, and strong privacy and security practices.
- Community & Partner Engagement: Represent the Biosphere locally, nationally and internationally; cultivate relationships with governments, Indigenous organizations, nonprofits, industry, academia and community groups; act as the primary spokesperson for the organization.
- Communications & Marketing: Provide high‑level direction for communications, marketing and media engagement.

Qualifications
- Post‑secondary education in nonprofit management, business administration or related fields (or equivalent senior leadership experience).
- Minimum five (5) years in executive/senior nonprofit leadership.
- Demonstrated success in revenue diversification and generation, financial management and strategic planning.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience leading staff, contractors and volunteers.
- Demonstrated success in building solid relationships and creating a thriving and well-functioning organizational culture.
- Knowledge of/past work in the environmental or conservation sectors considered an asset.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and familiarity with CRM platforms.
Contract Details
- Flexible contract averaging 35 hours per week.
- Required to work primarily from the Beaver Hills Biosphere office in Strathcona County with flexibility for some off-site/remote work.
- Competitive compensation aligned with experience and scope of responsibilities; starting range of $80,000 – $100,000/annum.
- Contractor will invoice the BHBRA monthly.
- Potential for professional development opportunities aligned with organizational priorities.
- Annual performance review conducted by the Executive Committee.
