SCOPE OF POSITION:
Under the direction of the Director, Manufacturing Operations, the Plant Manager oversees manufacturing operations, ensuring productivity, safety, and product quality goals are met or exceeded. Working within a unionized environment, the role includes managing front-line supervisors and coordinating with multiple departments to support continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with strong people management skills and a deep understanding of manufacturing processes and labor relations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and manage all plant operations to meet production goals, quality standards, and safety regulations. Troubleshoot plant operations issues to minimize disruption to manufacturing operations.
- Monitor short and long-term production goals and manage plant resources to meet them. Coordinate with the production scheduler and Lead Hands to ensure compliance with or updates to the production schedule.
- Manage staff requirements including coordinating the Lead Hands to ensure adequate staffing, equipment, and materials. Coach and support Lead Hands in developing daily and shift-based plans.
- Develop and manage plant budgets, cost controls, and resource planning. Monitor and approve expenses within the approval limits. Update records for accounting purposes. Ensure budget alignment with all expenses.
- Utilize system data (e.g., Sage 300 & Misys) to monitor progress, identify inefficiencies, and make data-driven recommendations.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, operational excellence, and employee engagement with plant staff and department managers to manage and implement changes.
- Prepare and share key performance indicators, such as but not limited to productivity, on-time delivery rate, downtime, and labour productivity, to make recommendations based on data-informed metrics.
- Ensure plant operations comply with applicable regulatory standards and internal quality systems. This includes appropriate equipment certification and maintenance requirements.
- Drive initiatives to reduce waste, improve efficiency, and optimize workflow.
- Communicate updates, process changes, and expectations clearly and proactively.
- Serve as a member and liaison to the joint health and safety committee (JHSC).
- Promote a culture of safety and ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards.
- Work collaboratively and safely with colleagues in cross-functional roles and departments for related projects.
- Other related duties, as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:Education: Post-secondary education in Engineering, Business, Operations Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 6 years of progressive leadership experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least 3 years in a unionized setting.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing, ERP systems, and production scheduling.
- Experience with Misys or similar inventory management systems is a strong asset.
- Experience managing cross-functional teams and change for continuous improvement.
- Experience managing expenses and budgets to operational needs.
- Experience measuring and preparing key performance indicators to make data-informed decisions.
- Experience in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and project management tools.

WORK CONDITIONS:
- This role is full-time on-site based on operational requirements.
- The work environment is in a manufacturing plant, which may be dusty at times.
- May require evening or weekend shifts on occasion.
