Construction Project Accountant
North York 100% onsite
The Project Accountant is responsible for managing the costs and budget of several projects, ranging in size from 10m-100m+. The Project Accountant reports to the Controller and is responsible for ensuring best practices are implemented and adhered to. This includes reviewing and analyzing job profitability, reviewing payables and receivables for accuracy, ensuring timely payments and collections, analyzing budget variances and maintaining strong trade and vendor relationships.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for AP management:
- Manage the full AP cycle, including receipt, verification, coding, and processing of vendor invoices.
- Ensure all invoices align with contracts, purchase orders, and supporting documentation; investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Prepare and execute weekly payment runs, including EFTs, cheques, and other disbursements, ensuring accuracy and approval compliance.
- Reconcile vendor statements and maintain up-to-date, accurate AP aging reports.
- Responsible for managing full-cycle Accounts Receivable:
- Generating and allocating accurate and timely billings, working closely with PM team to ensure all deadlines are met
- Working closely with clients to ensure demands are met
- Providing supplemental documentation as needed
- Posting cash receipts
- Ensure timely collection of A/R by working closely with clients and PM team
- Complete frequent and thorough reconciliations of the projects
- Manage the costing and budgeting of the project monthly:
- Ensuring variances are accounted for
- Ensuring change orders are billed correctly and in full, in a timely manner
- Preparing monthly project summary of the cost and revenue details with analysis
- Ad hoc financial reporting project including
- Analyze monthly payroll and post journals
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and report to the Controller on cash health
- Review, prepare and Netfile monthly HST
- Assist with year-end working paper preparation, and assist with annual external review by responding to auditor inquiries
- Assist with monthly forecast preparation and analysis for assigned projects
Requirements:
- Minimum 3 years in construction accounting, in project management or similar role
- Experience supervising a team
- Strong written and communication skills
- Experience with Premier Construction Software an asset
