About 30 Birds Foundation

30 Birds Foundation supports Afghan refugee girls and young women in Canada through education, leadership development, mentorship, community-building, and mental-wellness resources.

Our work is rooted in shared leadership. The young women in our community are not just participants, they are increasingly shaping the programs, events, and spaces they belong to.

Our Saskatoon hub is one of our most vibrant, hosting leadership programming, community events, cultural gatherings, youth-led initiatives, and events designed to foster belonging and connection.

About the Role

The Community & Events Manager is a relationship-centred role supporting community-led programming within 30 Birds’ Saskatoon hub.

Rather than directing events from the top down, this role works alongside a Community Events Committee made up of WINGSPAN members (Afghan youth leaders). You’ll provide structure, coordination, and mentorship so participants can design and lead events that reflect their real needs, interests, and aspirations.

You’ll collaborate closely with the Canada Country Director to support shared leadership while maintaining clear timelines, budgets, and operational boundaries.

Key Responsibilities

Community-Led Events & Programming

  • Support and facilitate a Community Events Committee that leads event design and decision-making
  • Translate committee ideas into welcoming, well-organized, and feasible events
  • Ensure programming is culturally sensitive, accessible, and inclusive
  • Manage event logistics (venues, transportation, catering, schedules, budgets)
  • Supervise and delegate tasks to the Community & Events Assistant
  • Support Afghan youth in developing leadership and event-planning skills

Volunteer & Event Support

  • Build and manage an event-focused volunteer system
  • Recruit, onboard, and coordinate volunteers for in-person events
  • Prioritize peer-aged volunteers to strengthen belonging and connection
  • Maintain clear communication before and after events
  • Lead an annual Volunteer Appreciation Gathering in Saskatoon

Signature & Major Events

  • Support committee leadership of Saskatoon’s annual Secret 3K
  • Lead planning and logistics in collaboration with local partners
  • Support major events as needed, including a potential Saskatoon Gala (Fall 2026) and the National WINGSPAN Summit & Gala (Toronto, 2027)

Administration & Coordination

  • Manage event budgets responsibly and transparently
  • Track attendance, feedback, and outcomes
  • Oversee event supplies, assets, and inventory
  • Coordinate vendors, reimbursements, and routine operations
  • Provide concise monthly updates to the Canada Country Director

Who You Are

You’re someone who:

  • Believes in shared leadership and community-driven programming
  • Is organized, reliable, and calm under pressure
  • Enjoys bringing ideas to life through logistics and collaboration
  • Works across cultures with humility, care, and curiosity
  • Balances warmth and relationship-building with clear boundaries and follow-through
  • Thrives in a small, mission-driven nonprofit environment

How to Apply

To apply, please send your Resume and Cover Letter to: info@30birdsfoundation.org with the subject line COMMUNITY AND EVENTS MANAGER.
