The Job Application Dilemma
People are waiting weeks for an interview amidst a surge in job applications at our company. As an employee, I’ve experienced firsthand the frustration of managing this influx without additional support.
The Burden of Unpaid Work
My current role is not only exhausting and inconsistent but also includes a significant amount of unpaid work. Despite assurances of a lighter workload, the reality is far from it.
High Expectations, Low Resources
With a massive increase in applications, management expects prompt responses, yet they refuse to hire additional staff. This leaves me as the bottleneck, with applicants growing increasingly frustrated while I scramble to keep up with the workload.
The Challenge of Job Searching
In my spare time, which is limited due to my job and school commitments, I attempt to apply for new positions. Each application is a time-consuming process that can take over six hours to tailor my resume and cover letter. The fear of losing my current job, which is critical for my financial stability, adds to my stress.
What Can Be Done?
I suggest communicating the increased application volume to management. They might not fully grasp the situation. Propose solutions such as automating parts of the application process or temporarily stopping new applications until they can handle the current load.
If they dismiss your concerns, prioritize your own job search and education. It’s rational to scale back your efforts at your current job while looking for a new opportunity.
Seeking Help
If you find yourself in a similar situation, remember that communication is key. Keeping your bosses informed and suggesting practical solutions could alleviate some of the pressure. And if they continue to overlook your workload, it might be time to reassess your position and focus on your future.
