Mine Maintenance Superintendent at Equinox Gold

The Greenstone Mine in Geraldton, Ontario, commenced production in May 2024 and is set to become one of Canada's largest open-pit gold mines. With an expected annual production of nearly 400,000 ounces of gold over an initial 14-year mine life, this project offers significant opportunities, including potential from a large underground deposit. Owned by Equinox Gold Corp, a Vancouver-based company with operations in the U.S., Mexico, and Brazil, this mine represents a major player in the global mining sector.

Job Summary

We are seeking a Mine Maintenance Superintendent to join our dynamic team. Reporting to the Mine Manager, this role is crucial for overseeing mobile equipment maintenance at this new start-up mine, which is ramping up to a 200,000-tonne-per-day open-pit operation. The position is based in Geraldton, Ontario, with a 7 days on / 7 days off rotation, providing an excellent work-life balance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee site-wide mobile maintenance activities to support the ramp-up to full production.
  • Develop and communicate long-term maintenance objectives and establish performance metrics.
  • Execute an effective asset management plan using data analytics and machine health monitoring.
  • Ensure personnel requirements are met with proper onboarding and training.
  • Promote a safe workplace with a target of zero harm, ensuring the safety of all employees and equipment.
  • Lead by example in upholding Greenstone Mine values and collaborate with operations and engineering teams.
  • Develop and manage business plans and budgets efficiently.

Required Experience and Skill Set

  • Working knowledge of enterprise resource planning and SAP maintenance modules.
  • Expertise in open-pit mining maintenance practices and repair.
  • Advanced knowledge of haul trucks and hydraulic shovels in an open-pit environment.
  • 10+ years of work experience and 3+ years of management experience in a similar role.

Job Conditions and Certifications

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, leadership abilities, and project management expertise.
  • Proficiency in problem-solving, analytical skills, and Microsoft Office.
  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Technology is required.
