London, Ontario Lands Major 150-Job Factory: Mayor Announces Economic Boost in State of the City Speech
In a significant announcement at the annual State of the City address, London Mayor Josh Morgan revealed that the city has secured a new 150-job factory, marking a major win for local economic development. The speech, delivered on Wednesday morning at RBC Place, drew a large crowd of community leaders and highlighted the city's growing momentum in attracting businesses.
Key Announcement: Empack Spraytech Inc. Expansion
Empack Spraytech Inc., a Brampton-based company, is set to establish a new facility in London's Innovation Park on Jetstream Road. The company has purchased 15 acres (six hectares) of land and plans to build a 200,000-square-foot plant. Initially, the facility will employ about 50 people, with projections to grow to over 150 employees as production ramps up.
Empack Spraytech specializes in manufacturing aerosol-based products, including cleaning supplies and butane fuels, serving various industries. This move underscores London's appeal as a hub for advanced manufacturing.
Economic Growth and Additional Expansions
Mayor Morgan emphasized that this announcement is part of a broader trend of economic growth in London. Kapil Lakhotia, CEO of the London Economic Development Corp., noted that investments from companies like Empack, along with recent expansions by Andriani and Medicom, highlight the strength of London's diverse economy in sectors such as agri-food and life sciences.
Other local businesses are also expanding:
- Huffman Innovation: A machine shop and metal fabricator, has bought five acres in Innovation Park and is moving into a new 30,000-sq.-ft. facility, creating about 50 jobs.
- Natra Chocolate America: Recently added 60 jobs in chocolate production.
- Dr. Oetker: Now employs nearly 400 workers after adding about 100 new positions.
- Givens Engineering: Completed a 30,000-sq.-ft. facility in Huron Industrial Park, a $11.5-million investment creating 25 jobs.
- Skyreach Group: Built a 106,000-sq.-ft. patio door manufacturing plant in Innovation Park, a $20-million investment expected to create 100 jobs.
Affordable Home Ownership Program
In another notable move, Mayor Morgan issued a strong mayor order for a new affordable home ownership program. This initiative will cover development charges for new home buyers, with 60% funded by the city and 40% by developers. It will apply only to new homes priced below London's average sale price, aiming to make homeownership more accessible.
Implications for Job Seekers and the Community
This factory and other expansions signal robust job opportunities in London, particularly in manufacturing and related sectors. For job seekers, this means potential openings in roles ranging from production to management. The city's focus on economic diversification and innovation positions it as an attractive destination for both businesses and workers.

As London continues to attract investments, residents can expect enhanced economic stability and increased employment options. This development aligns with broader trends in Canadian job growth and regional economic development, making it a key story for anyone interested in the Ontario job market.
