Nova Scotia Health Job Fairs
Nova Scotia Health recently organized career fairs across the province, drawing in thousands of potential applicants. This marks the second consecutive year for this initiative, which was made an annual event following last year's impressive turnout.
Lauren Murphy, the NS Health Director of Recruitment and Volunteer Services, stated, "This is one of 11 locations all across the province and as you can see, we are very busy." Last year, over 3,000 Nova Scotians attended, leading to the hiring of more than 220 individuals across various positions.
The primary aim of these fairs is to connect job seekers with recruiters. Murphy emphasized, "We are living in a global healthcare talent shortage, and this is our way of combating that by allowing people with experience or interest to build our talent pool."
Reena Battie, a new resident in Halifax, expressed her hopes that the fair would help her connect with the right employers, stating, "For some immigrants who don’t know where to go, I appreciate these events and believe they should occur every month."
Justin Bishop, interested in software engineering roles, mentioned he had never considered a career in healthcare until the fair. He commented, "There’s a huge demand for work and too many people but not enough jobs, and I am one of them."
Sharon Osei-Sarfo, a student, took the opportunity to engage with employers and inquire about their expectations from applicants, aiming to improve her application.
On the day of the event, 4,021 people visited job fairs across the province, with attendance numbers as follows:
- Halifax: 1,647
- Dartmouth: 366
- Truro: 187
- Amherst: 85
- New Glasgow: 138
- Antigonish: 177
- Baddeck: 35
- Sydney: 872
- Kentville: 311
- Bridgewater: 134
- Yarmouth: 69
