Economic challenges such as tariffs, inflation, and high interest rates have left many companies hesitant to hire, creating a more competitive job market.
The Interview Process: A Marathon of Frustration
As companies become more risk-averse, job seekers are facing multiple interview rounds that can extend for months, often involving significant unpaid labor. HR experts recommend that companies clarify their requirements, broaden their sourcing beyond online ads, and enhance communication with candidates.
In tech, interview demands have spiraled out of control, with candidates facing days of unpaid assignments and rigorous evaluations. This trend has spread to various white-collar industries, resulting in a surplus of qualified candidates vying for limited positions.

The Reality of Ghosting and Delays

She suggests limiting the interview process to three rounds and maintaining open lines of communication with candidates, even if it’s just to inform them they were not selected.
By adopting these practices, companies can improve their hiring processes and attract the best candidates while ensuring a more respectful experience for job seekers.
