AI's Grim Reaper: 27 Jobs Workers Predict Will Be Wiped Out First

It feels like every week brings another headline about AI replacing jobs or changing entire industries. So when someone asked the internet, "What jobs will actually die because of AI?" hundreds of people jumped into the conversation. More than 650 comments later, workers across various industries had weighed in on which careers they think are most at risk, whether because they're already seeing AI change their jobs or because they think it's only a matter of time.

Here are 27 of the most interesting predictions:

Software Developers

"Software developers are in big trouble. The job won't die entirely, but there will be far fewer of them making any money. It's becoming easier and easier for product owners to simply describe what they want and get a good-enough implementation."

Stock Photographers

"Stock photographer, stock photograph model, and selling stock photographs."

Computer-Based Jobs

"Everything you can do on a computer. People have no idea what's coming."

Typists and Secretaries

"Typists and secretaries. My mum spent her life typing dictations of doctors — listening and typing it out, day in, day out."

"Actors. AI is getting to the point where it can generate live-action movie scenes that are actually decent. I can see a future where actors function more like models and sell their likeness to AI film companies."

"Digital art in any form. Over the past couple of years it's gone from laughably bad to hard to tell it's AI at a glance. Give it some more time to cook and it'll be impossible."

"What I currently see is online journalists for the big sites. They're there for the clicks, and AI has tons of examples. Pretty easy to do with a small team of engineers. Good journalists are unfortunately rare."

Data Analysts and Auditors

"I think a lot of data reading and data auditing jobs will die. If you're creating a BI report or Excel sheet, reading it and presenting options to the C-suite, I'd be looking to upskill."

Actuaries and Stock Advisors

"Things like actuarial scientists, stock advisors, and second-rate journalism."

Influencers

"Only the 1% of 'thirst trap' influencers will survive AI. Absolutely perfectly hot women will be a dime a dozen, and it's not like the human ones were any less fake anyway."
