The landscape of employment is shifting as artificial intelligence (AI) becomes mainstream. According to Indeed's data, the majority of AI-labelled job titles in major European economies now sit outside traditional technology occupations. This marks a significant change from just a few years ago when AI roles were predominantly in software and data.
AI adoption at work is accelerating: 15% of people aged 16 to 74 in the EU used generative AI for work in 2025, per Eurostat. The shift began in tech but has spread to sales, HR, legal services, customer support, and administrative roles.
"AI-related skills, tasks and tools are becoming mainstream in the labour market," says Pawel Adrjan, Director of Economic Research at Indeed.
Germany Leads in AI Job Titles
For Q1 2026, Germany topped the list with 288 AI-labelled job titles, followed by the UK (160), France (138), the Netherlands (84), and Spain (81). This is a dramatic increase from Q1 2022, when Germany had only 72, Spain 8, France 35, the UK 61, and the Netherlands 21.
The Share of AI Job Titles on the Rise
AI-labelled titles now account for 4.2% of all job titles in Germany, up from 0.8% four years ago. France follows with 3.3%, the UK with 2.7%, Spain with 2.3%, and the Netherlands with 2.2%. All were below 1% in 2022.
AI Job Titles Spread Far Beyond Tech Roles
In four of the five countries, more than half of AI-labelled jobs are non-tech. Germany leads with 59% outside tech, followed by the Netherlands (58%), France and the UK (both 54%). This trend suggests AI is permeating every sector, reshaping the job market across Europe.
