AI Reshapes Industries as Job Cuts Soar
US companies announced the most job cuts for any October in more than two decades, driven by artificial intelligence reshaping industries and accelerating cost-cutting, according to data from outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc.
Companies announced 153,074 job cuts last month, which is almost triple the number from the same month last year. This surge was primarily fueled by the technology and warehousing sectors. It marks the highest October job cut total since 2003, a period when the rise of cellphones caused similar disruptions, as noted by Andy Challenger, the company's chief revenue officer.
