Use the free iNaturalist app to photograph wild plants and animals—and help spread the word at your school, workplace, community, and on social media. 🌱 Description What you’ll be doing Volunteer Opportunity: Saskatoon City Nature Challenge 2026 Dates: April 24 – April 27, 2026Location: Saskatoon and surrounding area Location:Time Commitment: As little or as much as you like Requirements: A smartphone and the free iNaturalist app Join Saskatoon and area as we take part in the City Nature Challenge 2026 (#CNC2026)—an international, four-day event where cities around the world work together (and compete!) to document local biodiversity. What You’ll Do Volunteers Can:

  • Take photos of WILD plants and animals (wild means not planted or cared for by people)
  • Upload observations using the free iNaturalist app
  • Observe nature in neighbourhoods, parks, riverbanks, schoolyards, trails, and greenspaces
  • Help spread the word by sharing the City Nature Challenge with your school, workplace, community groups, and on social media

Not only can you take part in observing wild organisms, but you can also play a key role in inspiring others to get involved. You don’t need to know what species you’re photographing—teams of experts will review and help identify observations after they’re submitted. Why It Matters

  • For species at risk, we cannot protect what we do not know
  • For invasive species, early detection and rapid response are critical
  • Your observations support vital conservation research used by scientists, planners, and decision-makers

Researchers, school groups, families, wildlife enthusiasts, and first-time participants across the globe will be taking part in this race against the clock to put nature on the map. Who Can Volunteer? Everyone! Whether you’re an expert naturalist, a seasoned BioBlitz participant, or getting involved for the first time, the City Nature Challenge is easy, fun, and meaningful. How to Participate (Easy as 1-2-3!)

  • Download the iNaturalist app
  • Search, snap, and share photos of wild plants and animals
  • Upload your observations and learn more as experts add identifications

Friendly Competition 🌍 Saskatoon and area will compete for the title of Most Biodiverse City, with awards for:

  • Most observations
  • Most species found
  • Most people engaged
