On their behalf, we are seeking a CONTROLLER/ASSISTANT CONTROLLER to join our growing finance team + help us elevate our financial operations, compliance, + reporting practices. This is a hands-on leadership role with room to grow into broader responsibilities as the company continues to expand. The Opportunity As the CONTROLLER/ASSISTANT CONTROLLER , you’ll be responsible for ensuring accurate + timely financial reporting, overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, supporting budgeting + forecasting activities, along with contributing to system + process improvements. This role is ideal for someone looking to step into a more senior role over time with mentorship, support, + exposure to both operational + strategic finance. RESPONSIBILITIES;
- Oversee full-cycle accounting including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, + general ledger.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, + annual financial statements in accordance with ASPE.
- Lead month-end + year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy + timeliness.
- Assist with budget preparation, cash flow projections, + variance analysis.
- Manage + maintain internal controls, ensuring compliance with policies + best practices.
- Coordinate with external auditors + support the year-end audit process.
- Support implementation + optimization of accounting systems + reporting tools.
- Assist in the development of financial dashboards, operational reports, + performance metrics.
- Provide financial insight + support to operational leaders across the business .
Requirements QUALIFICATIONS
- CPA designation in progress or completed (or equivalent experience); candidates without a CPA but with strong financial reporting experience will also be considered.
- 5–8 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance roles, ideally within a multi-location, retail, or construction-related environment.
- Solid knowledge of Canadian GAAP (ASPE), internal controls, + reporting standards.
- Proficient in Excel + financial/accounting systems (ex: QuickBooks, Sage, NetSuite, or similar)
- Strong attention to detail + organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize competing deadlines, + support multiple stakeholders.
- Strong communication skills + a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
