Job Description The successful candidate will be responsible for providing clinical and quality support, guidance and education to the nursing staff, health care aides and Edmonton Centre of Hope staff through the development, implementation and training of the employee health education programs. The Clinical Educator is also responsible for supporting the Director of Care in providing continuing care and assist in maintaining a safe and secure environment for residents, visitors and other staff members. AccountabilitiesEducation & Training:
- Provide support and education to frontline staff on best practices for resident care and safety
- Collaborate with the Director of Care to evaluate nursing staff and health care aides’ competencies and identify required education/training requirements.
- Research/identify internal/external programs to meet education/training requirements.
- Schedules, co-ordinate and facilitate/conduct in-service education programs to meet identified needs.
- Track and document all the training that nursing staff have received and ensure education is done within three (3) months of new hires and yearly.
- Ensure that nursing staff is current in competencies, assessments, licensing, certification and other educational/training requirements.
- Train and certify nursing staff (HCAs & LPNs) for Standard First Aid & CPR.
- Coordinates and monitors the work activities and resources of assigned care services to achieve quality resident care
- Participate in the development of plans, objectives and strategies for care services which are aligned with overall organizational strategic directions
Resident Care
- Plan, develop, implement and evaluate clinical care services in accordance with evidence-based practices
- Provide support to resident care and safety. Provide solutions and address their care needs, concerns and feedback and provides resident support through family contacts
- Participate in the development of plans, objectives and strategies for care services which are aligned with overall organizational strategic directions
- Evaluate the performance of care services through agreed upon objectives and measures
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate resident care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team ensuring the delivery of resident-centered care
- Ensure consistency in programs and practices in resident care services
- Ensure compliance with the organizational policies and procedures, Continuing Care Health Service standards, accommodation standards, relevant legislation regulations, accreditation standards and regional health authority requirements
- Respond, investigate and review concerns and complaints from residents and families
- In collaboration with the Director of Care, investigate and review all unusual incidents, critical incidents, and medication incidents
- Ensure that all intake / resident agreements are met and provide support to staff as they work with clients who do not meet the expectations of the resident agreements.
- Ensure that resident admissions, transfers and discharges are processed according to policy and procedures and that the dignity of the resident is maintained.
- Ensure that frequent and ongoing opportunities for residents to engage in positive social and community activities are offered.
- Work collaboratively with AHS case managers to ensure that routine resident assessments are performed in a timely manner
Administration
- Assist the Director of Care in developing, recommending and implementing operational policies
- Work collaboratively with the Unit Manager and the Director of Care to decide on what admissions are accepted at Grace Manor
- Work collaboratively with the Unit Manager and the Director of Care to ensure the smooth running of the department
- Assist the Director of care in developing, recommending and implementing operational policies and Accreditation preparation
- Interact with residents, family members, visitors and volunteers.
- Maintain confidentiality of residents’ personal information.
- Understand and follow all health and safety policies and procedures. Work safely to reduce the risk of injury to self, other staff members and residents. Promptly report all actual or potentially hazardous situations.
- Participate in the Occupational Health & Safety Committee.
- Perform other related duties as required to ensure the effective operation of the residence.
Working Conditions
- The working environment is typically at work sites within residential settings.
- The work schedule may change as set by Supervisor.
- The incumbent’s work environment is typically at work sites within residential settings, and may experience the following disagreeable conditions: therefore, will need to follow or use universal precautions:
- Dealing with angry and abusive people, verbal abuse
- Exposure to bodily fluids, bodily waste, and infectious diseases
- Exposure to drugs, alcohol, and solvents
- Physical attacks by others
- Exposure to toxic chemicals
- Sharp objects (i.e., needle sticks, knives, and weapons)
- Other dangerous situations
- Immunization for Hepatitis B and vaccination against Tuberculosis
- Responding to first aid emergencies; including overdose and death
Education, Qualifications And Certifications
- Degree in Nursing Education or Health Care related field from an approved accredited nursing program.
- Possess a current nursing registration as an RN in the province of Alberta.
- Certified trainer for Standard First Aid & CPR and Basic Life Support
Experience And Skilled Knowledge Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience in an Assisted Living or Long-Term Care community is preferred.
- Prior experience working with seniors.
- Must have clinical education experience.
- Must have prior experience in teaching and developing clinical education and training materials in topics such as abuse prevention and awareness, medication administration, safe bathing and showering, safe transfer and lifting, infection prevention and control, palliative care and risk management.
- Knowledge of the Continuing Care Health Service Standards (for supportive living), policies and procedures for the province of Alberta
Skills And Capabilities
- Good organizational and time management skills with the ability to multi-task
- Must possess excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills with the ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with residents and staff members.
- Excellent facilitation and presentation skills
- Customer Service Oriented.
- Computer literacy in a Windows environment including email, word, power point and excel.
This is a Full-time position. Scheduled weekly hours : 40 hours Target hiring range for this position is $33.12 per hour with a maximum of $49.67 per hour Compensation The target hiring range for this position is $33.12 to $41.39 with a maximum of $49.67. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
