About The Role We are seeking an Electrical Engineering Lead to support the continued growth of our Edmonton office. This opportunity is ideal for a senior professional with strong technical expertise in electrical building design, along with proven leadership, mentorship, and project management capabilities. The successful candidate will serve as a technical authority and project leader, overseeing complex building and subdivision projects from concept through construction. You will collaborate closely with clients, internal teams, and external stakeholders to deliver coordinated, practical, and cost-effective electrical systems that satisfy both code requirements and construction realities. Candidates should possess 5+ years of consulting experience, strong building design knowledge, and the ability to lead projects, mentor junior staff, and contribute to operational excellence and team development. Key Responsibilities Technical Leadership & Project Delivery Act as the technical lead for building and subdivision electrical projects, ensuring quality, consistency, and code compliance. Review electrical designs, calculations, and documentation prepared by junior team members. Provide technical guidance and problem-solving support throughout all project phases. Building Electrical Design Lead the design of electrical systems for commercial, residential, industrial, hospitality, institutional, and mixed-use developments. Perform and review load calculations, short-circuit studies, coordination studies, and system sizing. Design lighting layouts, lighting control systems, and photometric studies. Lead the design of fire alarm, life safety, emergency, and standby power systems, including UPS and generator systems. Prepare grounding, bonding, heat trace, and communications system designs. Municipal & Subdivision Electrical Design Lead the design of low- and medium-voltage distribution systems for subdivisions and land development projects. Oversee streetlighting, distribution pathways, and communications network layouts. Coordinate with municipal authorities, utility providers, telecom companies, and other stakeholders. Contribute to feasibility studies, servicing reviews, and electrical planning for new communities. Coordination, QA/QC & Documentation Review and stamp electrical drawings, specifications, and construction documents. Ensure all deliverables meet internal QA/QC standards and client expectations. Coordinate with civil, structural, mechanical, and architectural disciplines to deliver integrated designs. Support energy audits, feasibility studies, and code compliance reviews. Construction & Client Support Provide senior technical support during construction, including shop drawing reviews, RFIs, and site visits. Lead client meetings and serve as a trusted technical advisor. Deliver practical, buildable solutions aligned with project budgets and schedules. Mentorship & Team Development Mentor junior designers and EITs through technical guidance, reviews, and coaching. Support the growth and development of the electrical engineering team. Contribute to the continuous improvement of design standards, tools, and processes. Qualifications & Experience Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in good standing with APEGA. 5-10+ years of consulting electrical engineering experience with strong building design expertise. Demonstrated experience leading projects and providing technical oversight. Strong Working Knowledge Of Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) Alberta Building Code Municipal standards, including utility and local authority requirements Technical Experience With Power distribution systems Fire alarm and life safety systems Lighting and photometric design Low-, medium-, and high-voltage systems Subdivision electrical and communications design Software & Skills Proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with Revit and lighting calculation software is considered an asset. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong problem-solving ability with a practical, construction-focused mindset.
