Job Description

Posted on: January 14, 2026

Summit Search Group is proud to partner with Mount Carmel Clinic on the recruitment of a Director of Operations. This is a senior leadership opportunity for a CPA who is motivated by purpose-driven work and ready to play a key role in strengthening the operational and financial foundations of one of Winnipeg’s most impactful community health organizations.

The Organization:

Mount Carmel Clinic is a long-standing, community-based health organization serving Winnipeg’s inner city. With a $17.5M operating budget, approximately 160 staff, and more than 15 integrated programs and services, the organization supports roughly 10,000 clients and community members each year. Operating across multiple connected facilities in Winnipeg’s north end, Mount Carmel Clinic delivers primary care, social services, and community programming to populations who need it most.

The Opportunity

The Director of Operations is a senior leadership role with broad responsibility across finance, operations, HR, IT, and facilities. Reporting to and partnering closely with the Executive Director, the role is focused on building strong infrastructure, improving internal systems, and enabling the organization to operate efficiently and sustainably.

While the role is strategic in nature, the successful candidate must also be hands-on and adaptable, able to step in and ensure continuity when operational gaps arise. This is a meaningful opportunity for a CPA who wants to apply strong financial and operational expertise in service of community impact.

What You’ll Do:Strategic Finance & Leadership

  • Provide executive-level oversight of a complex multi-program operating budget.
  • Lead long-term financial planning, forecasting, and organizational sustainability initiatives.
  • Strengthen financial systems, controls, and reporting across diverse funding streams.

Operations & Infrastructure Oversight

  • Oversee organizational operations across multiple buildings and service locations.
  • Provide leadership across IT, facilities, maintenance, and operational vendors.
  • Support upcoming technology and infrastructure initiatives, including cloud and connectivity upgrades.

People & Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop managers, including HR and Operations & Finance leadership.
  • Build management capacity, accountability, and continuous improvement across departments.
  • Step in as needed to ensure operational continuity during leadership absences.

Organizational Advancement

  • Partner with the Executive Director on strategic planning and organizational improvement.
  • Establish departmental goals, performance measures, and leadership expectations.
  • Support a healthy, effective culture aligned with Mount Carmel’s mission and values.

Qualifications & Experience Required

  • CPA designation (mandatory)
  • Proven leadership experience in finance and operations within a complex organization

Ideal Background

  • Detailed CPA with meaningful people-leadership experience
  • Demonstrated ability to lead managers
  • Experience working in multi-program, publicly funded, or community-based organizations
  • Comfort operating in unionized environments
  • Strategic, confident, and improvement-oriented
  • Mentorship-focused; able to challenge and support managers constructively
  • Hands-on when needed without losing strategic perspective
  • Able to bring structure without rigidity
  • Values-aligned and motivated by meaningful community impact

This is an opportunity to provide financial and operational leadership that truly matters. The Director of Operations will help ensure Mount Carmel Clinic remains strong, resilient, and effective—so frontline teams can focus on delivering essential care and services to the community.
